2021 Mahindra XUV500 Diesel Automatic spied ahead of launch

Mahindra is currently working on an all-new generation of 2021 XUV500 and the Scorpio, which are expected to launch this year. However, the launch of the SUVs might get delayed because of the shortage of microprocessors. We have covered this story in detail and you can read more by clicking here. Now, the new SUV has been spied with a diesel engine and an automatic transmission. We know that the SUV that was spied was a diesel AT because there was a sticker that was placed at the rear glass of the SUV. The 2021 XUV500 was spied in Hubli, Karnataka.

The new SUV looks like an XUV500 undoubtedly. It still is inspired by the Cheetah and the one that was spotted comes with an L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps. At the front, there will be LED headlamps which will seamlessly continue with the Daytime Running Lamps. It will come with Mahindra’s 6-slat grille and a sleek air dam in the lower half of the bumper. We can also see foglamps placed at the side of the lower half of the bumper.

At the side profile, we get 5-spoke alloy wheels, turn indicators on the outside rearview mirrors, shark fin antenna and roof rails. We still get the bulge on the rear wheel arch which enhance the stance of the SUV. Mahindra will also offer the XUV500 with flush-fitting door handles which is a first for this segment of SUVs. At the rear, we get LED tail lamps and a flattish tailgate with a rear wiper and washer.

The interior will be a big step up when compared to the current XUV500. It will come with a more premium and soft-touch dashboard and materials. There will be leather upholstery, leather-wrapped gear selector and steering wheel. There is a new multi-function steering wheel which comes with a flat-bottom to enhance the sportiness. There will be features like cruise control, automatic climate control, wireless charging, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps and a massive panoramic sunroof to open up a sense of airiness. From the spy shots, we can see that Mahindra is using dual-tone black and beige theme for the cabin.

Mahindra will offer two horizontal screens that will sit side by side. The right side will be a digital instrument cluster while the left one will be a touchscreen infotainment system. The instrument cluster will show information like a speedometer on the left side, a tachometer on the right side, a gear position indicator in the middle of the tachometer and a digital speed readout in the speedometer. It will also showcase other important information such as average fuel efficiency, real-time fuel efficiency, temperature gauge, fuel gauge etc.

Mahindra will offer two engine options with the 2021 XUV500. There will be a 2.0-litre Stallion turbocharged, direct-injection petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. The diesel engine will produce around 180 PS while the petrol engine will produce around 190 PS. Both the engines could produce around 380 Nm. Mahindra will offer both the engines with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Mahindra 2021 XUV500 will be competing with the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and the upcoming Hyundai Alcazar.
