2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio spied again before launch: Clearest Pictures

Maruti Suzuki will be launching the new-gen Celerio on November 10th. There have been quite a few spy shots of the 2021 Celerio recently. However, here are the clearest pictures of the Celerio. The new hatchback was spotted while it was on a flatbed truck.

The hatchback is finished in red colour and gets black alloy wheels. So, we know that this is the top-end variant of the Celerio. The turn indicators are not placed on the outside rearview mirrors. Instead, they are placed on the front fender.

It also gets fog lamps, body-coloured bumpers and rearview mirrors. It still gets an exposed keyhole on the driver side door. On the lower variants, the keyhole will also be visible on the tailgate. The top-end variant also gets a rear wiper with a washer.

Design

The design of the Celerio is a big departure from the current Celerio. It no longer uses a tall boy design due to which it now looks like a regular hatchback. Up-front there is a new grille with a chrome slat and the bumpers are also all-new.

The tail lamps and headlamps are now curved and so is the exterior design of the 2021 Celerio. From the side profile, it does resemble the Alto 800. The lower trim levels will not get alloy wheels. Instead, they will come with steel wheels and wheel covers.

Interior

The interior of the new generation Celerio has also been redesigned. Till now, we do not know whether Maruti will use a dual-tone theme for the interior. It does come with a three-spoke steering wheel, manual air conditioning with heater, rectangular AC vents in the centre, redesigned dashboard, a 12V accessory socket and cupholders with storage space. Celerio will still come with an analogue instrument cluster with a digital readout. There will be no keyless entry or push-button to start/stop the engine. The higher-end variants will come with a 7-inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Engine and gearbox

We were expecting Maruti Suzuki to offer the Celerio with two petrol engine options. However, it has been revealed by Autocar India, that 2021 Celerio will be offered with a single petrol engine. It will be a new 1.0-litre K10C DualJet engine. The manufacturer will be offering it with a 5-speed AMT transmission or a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The new engine would make the new generation Celerio, the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its segment.  As of now, it is the Tata Tiago AMT that has a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.84 kmpl whereas the Celerio is expected to deliver a fuel economy of somewhere around 26 kmpl.

New platform

Celerio will now be based on a new Heartect platform that we have seen on the Swift, WagonR, Dzire, Baleno and other Maruti Suzuki vehicles. Because of the platform, the dimensions of the Celerio should increase. This should offer more space to the occupants. Also, the Heartect platform should be safer than the current platform.
