2021 Maruti Celerio to be the most fuel efficient car in segment

Maruti Suzuki is working on the new generation of Celerio and it is expected to launch in November. According to Autocar India, the 2021 Celerio could be the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its segment. Thanks to the new K10C petrol engine with Dual-Jet technology that will debut with the new Celerio.

The naturally aspirated K10C engine is doing duty on quite a few Suzuki vehicles in the international market, we have also experienced it on the previous generation Celerio. The manufacturer will now use the DualJet technology from Baleno’s new K12N engine on the K10C engine to make it more fuel-efficient.

The DualJet technology basically uses two fuel injectors per cylinder. Traditionally you only get one fuel injector per cylinder. So, you get more precise control over fueling. The engine also gets an improved gas recirculation system. All of this helps in increasing the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. The new-gen Celerio should be able to deliver a fuel efficiency of around 26 kmpl. As of now, the most fuel-efficient hatchback is the Tiago AMT with a fuel economy of 23.84 kmpl.

The engine will still remain a three-cylinder unit. However, because of the DualJet technology, there will be a slight bump in the power of the engine. When the Baleno got the DualJet engine the power output increased from 83 PS to 90 PS. However, the torque output stayed the same. Currently, the Celerio puts out 68 PS of max power and 90 Nm of peak torque.

The 2021 Celerio will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. Maruti Suzuki will offer the Celerio with several variants that will have cosmetic differences and differences in the equipment level. Unfortunately, Maruti Suzuki will not offer the hatchback with a more powerful 1.2-litre engine, the K10C engine will be the sole engine on offer.

The new generation of Celerio is an all-new model. It is developed from the ground up. Now, it uses the Heartect platform that we have already seen on the Swift, Dzire, Baleno, S-Presso, Ignis, Ertiga, XL6 and WagonR. So, it should be a bit safer than the current generation. Also, the new platform should help in losing some weight.

The Celerio now gets an all-new design and we can see that it takes some elements from the Baleno. Maruti Suzuki is no longer using a tall-boy design. It gets new triangular headlamps, a new grille with a chrome slat and a new bumper with fog lamps. On the side, it will come with newly designed blacked-out alloy wheels that will be offered only on the top-end variant. At the rear, there are rounded tail lamps, a rear wiper with a washer and a high mounted stop lamp.

The interior will also be new and gets vertical air conditioning vents with manual air conditioning. The steering is a three-spoke unit. There will be cup holders, cubby spaces and a 12V charging socket for mobile devices. The top-end variant is now expected to get the 7-inch SmartPlay Studio infotainment system that comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
