Maruti Suzuki Celerio could be called the elder sibling of the Alto 800. It was aimed towards people who wanted a small compact hatchback that is easy to live with but is not as basic as Alto. The Celerio has not received any update since its launch. However, recently there are some spy shots that are floating around the internet which showcases the new Celerio that could be launched next year.

Internally, the 2021 Celerio is being called YNC. One of the test mules of the 2021 Celerio’s base variant was recently spotted. We could figure out that it is a base variant because it misses out on wheel covers. The new Celerio is heavily updated and is a long departure from the current Celerio’s design language.

The 2021 Celerio looks much sleeker when compared to the current generation. This is due to the sleeker grille, triangular headlamps, redesigned front bumper and the number plate are now placed above the air dam. Maruti Suzuki is still offering halogen headlamps as there are no LEDs on offer anywhere on the hatchback. The side profile gets indicators mounted on the fenders and steel rims without any wheel covers. At the rear, there is a redesigned bumper and you still get a door handle to open the boot. The car also gets two reflectors mounted towards the lower half of the bumper and a high-mounted stop lamp.

There are also some shots of the interior, which reveal that it will feature an all-new cabin design. The new cabin design looks a bit more modern than the current one. The steering wheel and the instrument cluster have not been changed and are carried over from other Maruti Suzuki models. From the spy shot we can see that there is also a small digital readout just below the analogue speedometer which might show you some information.

Just like the other Maruti Suzuki’s we can see the circular side AC vents, although now they get a garnish to highlight them. The centre AC vents are mounted vertically now. The central console features two cupholders, storage space that can store your mobile phone or a wallet, 12V charging socket which can charge your devices and central mounted front power windows. The Celerio gets manual air conditioning with heater and a garnish around the gear stick.

The 2021 Celerio specs will offer a 1.0-L K10B petrol engine. This engine produces 67 bhp of max power and a peak torque output of 90 Nm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. Considering that Maruti Suzuki’s vehicles are relatively don’t weigh a lot. This power and torque figure should be enough for the new Celerio. Maruti Suzuki will also offer the 2021 Celerio with a factory-fitted CNG option which Maruti calls “S-CNG”.

The company might also offer the 1.2-litre petrol engine on the higher variants just like they offer the WagonR with two engine options. The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 81 bhp of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. If Maruti decides to do this, the Celerio could be one fun little hatchback because of the peppy engine and less weight. However, we would have to wait and see what the 2021 Celerio brings. Maruti Suzuki 2021 Celerio price is expected to start from Rs. 4.5 lakhs ex-showroom.
