Maruti Suzuki launched the 2021 Swift yesterday. The hatchback has been updated with some cosmetic and mechanical changes. It is the mid-life facelift as Swift was first launched in the Indian market back in 2017. The Swift has been in the Indian market for over 15 years and it has consistently been the most-selling hatchback. People love its funky and unique styling, fun to drive character and punchy engine. However, the competition was increasing and it was the time that Maruti Suzuki updated the Swift to make it more competitive in the segment. So, here it is the 2021 Swift which is Rs. 54,000 more expensive when compared to the previous base variant of the Swift. It now starts from Rs. 5.73 lakhs ex-showroom. Today, we list down 5 things that make the 2021 Swift different from the outgoing one.
The biggest talking point about the 2021 Swift is the new DualJet VVT petrol engine. The new 1.2-litre engine is more efficient and more powerful than the outgoing one. The new engine produces 90 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. When compared the previous 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine produced 83 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. That is a boost of 7 PS over the previous one. The engine is still offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.

Maruti Suzuki has also added a couple of new important features to the 2021 Swift to make it more modern. It now gets cruise control which should make highway driving easy. It also comes with a new multi-coloured information display that sits between the analogue dials. The new multi-information display shows more information and also looks more attractive when compared to the monochrome one that was on the current generation Swift. The outside rearview mirrors also are synced with the key fob. So, when you lock the hatchback, the outside rearview mirrors electrically close themselves. Variants with the AMT gearbox now comes with Hill Hold Assist and Electronic Stability Program as standard. It continues to come with features like automatic climate control, push-button to start/stop, multi-function steering wheel, keyless entry, SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, LED projector headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps etc.
The 2021 Swift is also slightly updated cosmetically. It now comes with a slightly retweaked front grille with a single horizontal chrome slat. However, the alloy wheels and every other thing remains the same as the current Swift.
The 2021 Swift is more fuel-efficient when compared to the outgoing one. The new one delivers 23.20 kmpl for the manual gearbox and 23.76 kmpl for the AMT gearbox. When compared the outgoing Swift delivered 21.21 kmpl. This increase in the fuel-efficiency has happened because of the addition of auto-idle start-stop functionality and a more efficient engine.
Maruti Suzuki has also added some new colours to the Swift to make it look refreshing. The Swift is still offered with Metallic Silky Silver, Solid Fire Red, Metallic Magma Grey, Pearl Metallic Midnight Blue, Pearl Metallic Lucent Orange and Pearl Arctic White. There are some new dual-tone colours added to the line-up. The 2021 Swift is now also offered with Pearl Arctic White with Pearl Metallic Midnight Blue with Pearl Arctic White roof, Pearl Midnight Black roof and Solid Fire Red with Pearl Midnight Black roof.
