The mid-life facelift of the Swift has been on sale in some international markets since last year, whereas the current generation of the Swift was launched in the Indian market in 2017. The current Swift is one of the best selling hatchbacks in the Indian market. The facelift will be bringing some minor cosmetic upgrades as well as a mechanical upgrade to the Swift.

For cosmetic upgrades, there will be a new grille upfront with a single horizontal chrome slat in between. The bumper has been slightly tweaked, but there are no changes to the fog lamp housing or other bits. There are no changes to the side profile, except that the 2021 Swift will be offered with a contrasting black roof from the factory. It will still be offered with the same alloy wheel design as the current one. There are no changes to the rear of the Swift.

The main update will be the mechanical one. The 2021 Swift will come with a new K12N DualJet petrol engine. The new 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is capable of producing 90 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. That is an increase of 7 PS over the previous engine which produces 83 PS of max power. However, the torque output and the gearbox options of both engines stay the same. So, the new engine will also be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. This is the same engine that we have seen on the Dzire which got a facelift last year and the Baleno.

The new engine will also be more fuel-efficient than the current K12M petrol engine because it comes with idle start-stop technology. So, the engine will automatically cut off when you are at a traffic light and will start again as soon as you press the clutch. But the engine does not get the SHVS mild-hybrid technology that we have seen on the Baleno. Currently, the most fuel-efficient petrol car is the Dzire. It is rated to deliver 24.12 kmph as per ARAI with the AMT transmission and  23.26 kmpl for the manual gearbox. There is a chance that the Swift might be more fuel-efficient than the Dzire because it is a lighter and smaller vehicle because it is a hatchback. The DualJet petrol engine is an improvement over the K12N engine. The new engine feels smoother, peppier and it also accelerates faster than the previous one. So, we can see some improvement in 0-100 acceleration times.

Maruti Suzuki 2021 Swift is expected to launch in the coming weeks.
