2021 skoda octavia launch timeline revealed

Skoda is all set to launch quite a few cars in the Indian market. All this is part of their INDIA 2.0 strategy. The manufacturer will be launching the Kushaq mid-size SUV first. Now, Zac Hollis, who is the director of Sales, Service & Marketing in Skoda India has just revealed that the Octavia executive sedan will also be launching in the next couple of months with the deliveries starting shortly after the launch. The information was shared by Zac on Twitter.

The Octavia was not updated to BS6 emission norms because there was a new generation of Octavia that was already launched in the international markets and the sedan was also due for an update. The Octavia that will be coming to India is an all-new generation and has been spotted on the Indian roads without camouflage already. The new design is more elegant than the outgoing one.

At the front, it comes with a new butterfly grille with vertical slats and a chrome surround. The grille is flanked by new LED headlamps which are now a single piece unit, unlike the previous generation which came with a split headlamp setup. The dual L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps are also now integrated within the headlamps. Then there is the new bumper with an air dam that stretches across the width of the sedan and it also houses the horizontal LED fog lamps. The bonnet is also sculpted for a more aggressive look.

From the side, we can see the shoulder line that stretches from the corner of the headlamp to the corner of the tail lamp. It now also gets some new ‘Rotare Aero’ alloy wheel design, which is 17-inch in size and a shark-fin antenna. At the rear, there are new angular LED tail lamps and “SKODA” badging lettering written. The boot still stays a hatchback type which means that the Octavia is still one of the most practical sedans that you can buy in the Indian market. The new design language helps Octavia in falling more in line with its siblings like the new Superb and the Scala hatchback that is sold in the international markets.

The Octavia comes with a slightly raised ride height to improve the ground clearance, which is important considering the road situations of India is not really good. The sedan is based on the Volkswagen group’s revised version of the MQB platform. Due to this, the length of the Octavia has gone up by 19 mm and the width has also gone up by 15 mm. However, the wheelbase has stayed the same. Skoda says that the space on offer should be more when compared to the previous Octavia.

The sedan is expected to be offered in two petrol engine options. There will be a 1.5-litre TSI engine and a 2.0-litre TSI engine. The 1.5-litre TSI produces 150 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. We have seen this engine on the Volkswagen T-Roc, Skoda Karoq and the upcoming Skoda Kushaq. However, Skoda might bump up the power outputs because Octavia is a bigger vehicle. Then there is the 2.0-litre TSI which produces 190 PS of max power and 320 Nm of peak torque.
