Volkswagen is working on a new SUV for the Indian market. It was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. It is known as the Taigun which will share its underpinnings with the Skoda Kushaq which is all set to debut on March 18th. Taigun that was showcased at the Auto Expo seemed like in its final production form. The production-spec Taigun was recently spied wearing heavy camouflage on the Indian roads.
From the spy shots, we can see that the Taigun looks like a proper SUV and a smaller version of the Tiguan SUV. It gets a slightly boxy design with rectangular elements and simple lines that flows through the body. Volkswagen vehicles are known to age well, even after so many years and the simple yet attractive design of the Taigun looks the same.

At the front, there are twin-pod LED headlamps placed which will come with LED Daytime Running Lamps. The grille is expected to be simple with three chrome slats with the new Volkswagen logo sitting in between. The lower air dam looks aggressive and big with a mesh design. There will be a faux skid plate below the air dam. It seems like the chrome surround around the halogen fog lamp that we saw at the Auto Expo 2020 will make it to the production-spec Taigun.
The side profile will get diamond-cut alloy wheels, roof rails and a shark-fin antenna. Volkswagen might also use plastic cladding to enhance the SUV proportions of the Taigun. The rear of the Taigun looks butch because of the rectangular and boxy elements. There are rectangular LED tail lamps and from the camouflage bulge, we can notice that there will be a reflective strip that should connect both the tail lamps. It will also come with a faux rear skid plate.
The interior shots do not show us much as they are covered. However, we do know that the interior will get body-coloured accents in various places of the cabin just like we saw at the Auto Expo 2020. It will also come with a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system that will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There will be push-button to start/stop, automatic climate control, connected car technology, electric sunroof, electric adjustment for the driver seat, traction control, stability program, cruise control and much more.
Volkswagen will only offer Taigun with petrol engine options as per their India 2.0 strategy. There will be a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI petrol engine. The 1.0-litre petrol engine will produce 110 PS of max power and 175 Nm. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre petrol engine will produce 150 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 250 Nm. It will be offered with a 7-speed DSG Dual-Clutch automatic transmission. These are the same engine options that we will see on the upcoming Skoda Kushaq. The production-spec Taigun will launch before 2021 Diwali.
