Ford Ecosport is due for an update for quite some time now. Every other manufacturer has updated its compact-SUV. Here, we have a render of the 2022 Ecosport that is done by Omkar on Instagram. This is how the new SUV might end up looking like as imagined by the artist. We know that Ford will be refreshing its line-up starting from 2021.
The render is based on the spy shots that showcased an all-new front design of a Ford SUV. The new SUV is based on the same platform as the 2021 XUV500 and it is internally being called CX757. The rendering artist has used the face of the spied SUV on the bodywork of the Ecosport. We can see the huge grille that takes up almost all the front while the horizontal LED Daytime Running Lamps sit at the side. The headlamps sit vertically where usually the fog lamp housing is placed. We can also see new diamond-cut alloy wheels that the artist has used. There is a slim but very wide air dam and a silver faux skid plate. However, this is just a speculation from the artist, the production version of the new generation Ecosport might look like something entirely different.
Currently, the Ecosport is the oldest compact-SUV in its segment. Everyone else has updated their compact-SUV or launched a significant facelift. Rivals like Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza are selling well as compared to the Ford Ecosport. This is due to the fact that the Ecosport’s design is ageing as compared to the rivals. Also, the compact-SUV now lacks in features and equipment when compared to its rivals.

Powering the new generation of Ford Ecosport will be the same set of engines as the Mahindra XUV300. There is also a slight possibility that the new Ecosport is based on the same platform as the XUV300. This is because Mahindra and Ford have agreed to form a joint venture. Due to this Ford is helping in building and tweaking the chassis, ride and handling of the vehicles. Whereas, Ford gets the same underpinnings, chassis and the engines as the Mahindra. So, the Ecosport will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The turbo petrol engine is capable of producing a max power output of 109 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque. Whereas, the diesel engine produces 115 bhp of max power and 300 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines produce class-leading torque output. Mahindra is also working on the new generation of turbocharged direct-injection petrol engines known as mStallion engines. Mahindra will be launching the XUV300 with a 1.2-litre turbocharged, direct-injection petrol engine that produces 130 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 230 Nm. Once launched, this engine will make the XUV300 the most powerful compact-SUV in the market. Ford is also expected to borrow this engine for their upcoming Ecosport. So, the Ecosport and the XUV300 will be the most powerful compact-SUVs in the segment.
Ford is also working on expanding its line-up next year. Ford is planning to launch a bunch of premium products that no other brand has launched till now. They will be launching Focus – hatchback, Focus ST – performance hatchback and Ranger Raptor – a high-performance pick-up truck. The manufacturer will also be launching an update to the Figo which is currently their least expensive product.
