Mahindra is working on the new generation of Scorpio for a long time now. It is expected to launch by mid of 2022. The test mules of the new SUV have been on Indian roads for quite some time now. Now, the feature list and engine outputs have been revealed by RavenAvi on Team-BHP.
The media report says that the 2022 Scorpio will come with dual-zone climate control. So, the front passengers will have their own climate zone. There will be connected car technology on offer. So, you would be able to control some of your features with your mobile phone and also track it through the application.
There would also be a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It will also come with a 360-degree parking camera that would help in parking the SUV in tight spaces. For safety, there would be up to 6 airbags and other features like traction control, stability control, Anti-lock braking system, ISOFIX child seat mounts etc.

Scorpio will also come with different terrain modes. So, expect the Scorpio to come with a 4×4 system that would take advantage of the terrain modes and distribute the torque accordingly.
There will be twin-pod LED headlamps that would use a projector setup. At the rear, there would be LED tail lamps. It will also come with sequential turn indicators. Scorpio will also offer push-button to start/stop the engine, keyless entry and there would be an electric sunroof to let in light to the cabin.
New-gen Scorpio will miss out on features like a panoramic sunroof and a 10 speaker sound system. The spy shots have already revealed that Scorpio will come with roof-mounted speakers. It will also miss out on Advanced Driver Aids because it would increase the cost of the SUV significantly.
Mahindra will offer the Scorpio as a 7 seater vehicle. So, the third-row seats will be side facing. There could also be a 6-seater version where the second-row seats will be captain chairs. So, two individual chairs instead of a single bench for the second row.
Engine and gearbox
Mahindra will offer the Scorpio with a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both the engines are already being used on XUV700 and the Thar. The diesel engine would be available in two states of tune.
For the lower variants, it would produce 130 bhp of max power. It is the same tune that the Thar gets. So, we expect the torque output to be more around 300 Nm. The variants that will get this engine might be offered only with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
On the higher variants, the engine would produce 160-170 bhp of max power. This is a new state of tune that we have not yet seen on any Mahindra SUV. The torque output should be somewhere around 360 Nm considering, the MX trim of XUV700 produces the same amount of torque and 155 bhp of max power. The higher trims would come with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
There will also be a 2.0-litre engine on offer. It is a turbocharged unit that also gets a direct injection. The media report does not say how much power and torque does the petrol engine will produce for the Scorpio. But we do know that it will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
