At first glance, we can immediately see that the Scorpio has grown in size by some margin. Also, what enhances the road presence of the 2022 Scorpio is the squared-off body panels. This gives the Scorpio a proper butch SUV look.

Up-front, we get dual projector LED headlamps. There is Mahindra’s 6-slat grille that is bigger than the current one. The airdam is also quite large and it looks like there is also a faux skid plate in the front. We can also see projector fog lamps which will also be LED units.

The bonnet is flat and the wheel arches are huge. Mahindra will use 17-inch alloy wheels. The new alloy wheels will be wrapped in 245/65 rubber. When compared the new tyres are wider as the current Scorpio uses 235/65 tyres. We can also see side steps that will help occupants in getting in and out of the SUV.

At the rear, there is a side-hinged tailgate and LED tail lamps. The tailgate will still be opened by using a door handle.  Also, there is a rear wiper with a washer and a high mounted stop lamp. We can also see a shark-fin antenna and roof rails.

Engine

Mahindra will offer the Scorpio with petrol and diesel engine. The petrol engine will be a 2.0-litre unit while the diesel will be a 2.2-litre unit. We have already seen these engines on the Thar and the XUV700. However, they will be in a different state of tune.

The diesel engine should put out around 155 PS of max power while the petrol engine should deliver around 180 PS of max power. The torque output is not yet known. Mahindra might also offer a detuned version of the diesel engine with the lower variants.

Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter unit. The higher variants will also come with a proper 4×4 system with a low range gearbox. This would make the Scorpio unique in the segment as it will be the only SUV that gets a proper 4×4 drivetrain except for the Thar.

Interior

Mahindra has given special attention to increasing the quality of the product. From the spy shots, we know that the new generation of Scorpio will use a brown and black cabin theme. The higher variants will also get leather upholstery. It would also come with a new touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and there would be an analogue instrument cluster with a multi-information display that looks similar to the one found on Thar. It would now also come with an electric sunroof.

Platform

The Scorpio will still use a ladder frame chassis. However, it will be reworked and improved. So, the ride quality will be better and the handling would also be better than the current Scorpio.
