Mahindra has revealed the new XUV700 and now they are working on the 2022 Scorpio. The new generation of Scorpio was supposed to launch this year but it has been postponed to next year. Mahindra is still testing the new SUV, so there are test mules of the Scorpio that can be spotted on the roads. This time the 2022 Scorpio is spotted in Himachal probably doing high altitude testing.

These tests are important to ensure that the vehicle is able to perform in every climate condition and the customers do not face any issues. For instance, the early batches of the Royal Enfield 650 Twins had an issue in which the engine was not able to breathe properly at high altitudes. They rectified the issue by flashing a new version of the software onto the ECU.

The video of the 2022 Scorpio has been uploaded on YouTube by Kar DIY. In the video, we can see three new gen Scorpios parked alongside each other. All three are running on different types of wheels. So, the first one is running on steel wheels, the second one is running on alloy wheels and the third one too is running on alloy wheels but they are designed differently. There are also three Scorpio Getaways that are probably there for support.

The 2022 Scorpio immediately looks a lot bolder and muscular than the current Scorpio. All three Scorpios in the video are equipped with dual pod LED projector headlamps and LED fog lamps. The fog lamps are surrounded by C-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps. There is also a larger grille. It has Mahindra’s 6 vertical slats. Also, we are expecting that the new-gen Scorpio will come with Mahindra’s new twin-peak logo that we first saw on XUV700.

It still retains its boxy shape and a flat bonnet. The alloy wheels size measures 17-inches and are using 245/65 section tyres whereas the current Scorpio uses 235/65 section tyres. So, the new Scorpio uses wider tyres. It also has a footstep for easy ingress and egress. Black plastic cladding is also expected to be on the wheel arches to make the SUV look more rugged. It also gets roof rails.

The Scorpio would not get the Smart door handles that we saw on the XUV700. These door handles sit flush with the bodywork and look better than traditional door handles. Having said that, Smart door handles would have increased the cost so it seems like the right decision by Mahindra to not use Smart door handles.

At the rear, the test mules have a tow hook attached in case the SUVs break down. The Scorpio comes with a high mounted stop lamp, rear wiper with washer, rear parking sensors, shark-fin antenna and a rear spoiler. The 2022 Scorpio will also get a side-hinged door. We can see the door handle that will be used to open the tailgate.

Then we come to the interior, where we can see that most of it is camouflaged. The test mule is missing a gear knob. The Scorpio is equipped with a flat bottom multi-function steering wheel, manual parking brake, automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, armrest and an electric sunroof. Also, from the previous spy shots, we know that the 2022 Scorpio will come with a black and brown interior.
