2021 was a quiet year for Maruti Suzuki but now they are working on revamping their line-up. They only launched the Celerio and the Swift Facelift. But now, the manufacturer is working on many new vehicles that are slated to launch next year. One such vehicle will be the new Alto 800. Now, the new hatchback has been spied alongside the first-gen Hyundai i10.
The video is uploaded on YouTube by Kar DIY. The video is of only 35 seconds and it showcases the 2022 Alto from the front, side and rear. The video was recorded when the test mule was on-road testing in Gurugram. The test mule was fully covered so that the updates are not clearly visible nor are the new body lines. We can only see the exterior of the 2022 Alto 800.

The design of the new Alto has been updated quite a bit. It now looks more aggressive than the current one. In the video, we can see that it will get a new honeycomb-shaped grille which will be larger than the current one. It also looks more aggressive than the current Alto 800.
The headlamps have a similar design but they are now larger which means that the headlight throw should be better. The bumper also looks more aggressive than the current-gen Alto. The turn indicators are still orange in colour and are mounted on the front fenders. The test mule was also running on slim tyres with blacked-out steel wheels. We are not expecting Maruti Suzuki to offer alloy wheels with the 2022 Alto.
Another thing that we notice is that the rear is now more squared-off and there are new tail lamps that are also square in shape. Maybe this has been done as a throwback to the legendary Maruti 800. There would also be a redesigned rear bumper with reflectors and Maruti Suzuki would also offer a high mounted stop lamp. We do not know whether Alto 800 will come with a rear wiper with a washer and a rear spoiler. Overall, the design of the 2022 Alto 800 looks sharper than the current generation.
New platform
If Maruti Suzuki decides to use their Heartect platform for the Alto 800, then its dimensions would grow. It could have more legroom, shoulder room and headroom than the current car. Some of the parts can also be shared with the S-Presso. This would help Maruti Suzuki in saving some development costs.
Engine and gearbox
The current generation of Alto 800 comes with a 796 cc, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. It is capable of producing 47 bhp of max power and 69 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The engine can also run on CNG. While running on CNG, the power is decreased to 41 bhp and torque is decreased to 60 Nm. As of now, it is not clear whether Maruti Suzuki will carry forward the same engine or will it make some updates to it or introduce a new one.
Rivals
2022 Alto 800 would compete against the Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-Go.
