According to Team-Bhp, Maruti Suzuki can launch the 2nd gen S-Cross in India by April or May this year. The media report also says that some dealerships are also accepting unofficial pre-bookings of the upcoming SUV.
The S-Cross is expected to come with the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, K-Series, naturally-aspirated engine that we have seen on XL6, Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, Ertiga and current S-Cross.
It produces 105 PS of max power and 138 Nm of peak torque. As standard, it comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It also gets a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. However, we are expecting Maruti Suzuki to finally upgrade the transmission to the new 6-speed unit that debuted on the global-spec S-Cross.

In the international market, the S-Cross is offered with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Suzuki calls it BoosterJet and it produces 127 bhp of max power and 235 Nm of peak torque. So, it is significantly more powerful than the 1.5-litre unit. Moreover, it also gets a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Suzuki has also upgraded the hybrid system from a 12V to 48V. It enables features like brake regeneration and idle engine start/stop. All these features help in saving fuel and reducing emissions. Moreover, the 2022 S-Cross is also offered with the Suzuki AllGrip AWD system.
Major features that were added to the S-Cross were a 360-degree parking camera and a new infotainment system. The 360-degree camera has a top-down view of the vehicle that helps the driver in parking the car in tight spaces. Then there is the new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that we have seen on the recently launched Baleno. It has multiple segments and also runs a new user interface.
Other features include cruise control, revised instrument cluster, multi-function steering wheel, multi-information display, automatic climate control, push-button to start/stop the engine, keyless entry etc.
Dimension-wise the only thing that has been majorly changed is the height which has been decreased by 10 mm. The wheelbase of the 2022 S-Cross measures 2,600 mm. It has a length of 4,300 mm, a width of 1,785 mm and a height of 1,585 mm. The platform also stays the same. So, it is Suzuki’s Global C platform. However, the manufacturer is saying that the platform has been slightly updated.
Upcoming launches
It is expected that Maruti Suzuki will launch the Ertiga Facelift sometime this month. The only major update to the Ertiga will be a new grille and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Then there will be the new generation of Brezza which has already been leaked online. It is expected to launch in April. We will also get a CNG version of Brezza this time. In May or June, Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the XL6 facelift. We are still not sure what updates will come with the facelift. There will also be a new generation of Alto 800 that has been spied testing.
The biggest launch for Maruti Suzuki this year will be the new mid-size SUV that has been co-developed with Toyota. It will be a hybrid vehicle and Toyota has already started building and testing engines for the new SUV.
