2022 Suzuki Swift spied – What we can figure out so far

Ever since its introduction in 2005, the country’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s (MSIL) hatchback Swift has enjoyed a cult-like following. The car became an instant hit across the nation and to this day it is regarded as one of the best all-around hatchbacks in the country. And Maruti Suzuki knows the importance of this breadwinner which is why it keeps on creating better generations of this vehicle year after year. So to keep the ball rolling the company is set to introduce the newest generation of the Swift and recently a few spy shots of a production-ready test mule in camouflage have appeared.

Observing the leaked pictures of the prototype we can note that the design of the new Swift is roughly the same but it will definitely sport an evolutionary style. The car spotted in the wild is a mule that prior to its planned 2023 debut and 2024 launch, has been sighted doing testing in hot conditions. It is believed that for the international markets the Sport variant of the model will also arrive following a buffer period of 6-12 months. Few spy shots of the current generation Suzuki Swift Sport testing on Indian soil have also surfaced on the internet but Maruti has been tight-lipped about the launch of the said model in the country.

In terms of the design of the forthcoming generation, we can note that the design of the new Suzuki Swift will have a more mature appearance with a larger and thinner front grille and sharper headlights and taillamps. It will also have a more crouched stance. In contrast to the current generation vehicle, the rear door handles on the camouflaged model were located on the door panels. The C-pillar black tape, which gives the present version of the car the appearance of having a floating roof, is also absent from the automobile.

In comparison to the first and second-generation hatchbacks, the new Suzuki Swift appears to feature more upright pillars and fewer side creases. The hindquarters behind the rear fenders, however, give the new Swift the appearance of being broader than past iterations of the Swift. The rear window panels, which have always been smaller in all Swift versions too far, appear to have expanded higher. Overall the design is pretty similar to the outgoing model but few details will set the new generation apart from the existing one.

Moving on to the inside of the new Swift no pictures have been taken of the cabin but we can expect subtle changes in it to bring the new Swift to modern standards. Creature comforts like a larger 9-inch Smartplay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, head-up display, six airbags, and more can be expected from the Japanese automaker to debut in the new Swift.

As for the platform the new Swift is expected to use a modified version of the current ‘Heartect’ platform to help conform to more stringent safety standards. Meanwhile, for the drivetrain the 1.2-litre four-cylinder K12C Dualjet petrol engine that powers the current Swift will still be the preferred option. This engine currently makes 90 PS and 113 Nm of torque and is offered with a 5-speed manual or AMT transmission.
