The all-new Hyundai Verna has created a lot of buzz in the country due to its new polarizing design and powerful turbo engine. This new mid-size sedan has been touted as one of the most powerful in the segment, and for this reason, it is being drag-raced against many vehicles to gauge its real-life speed. Recently, a video of a drag race between the all-new Hyundai Verna and a Jaguar XF surfaced online. The Verna, although leagues below the Jaguar XF in the market, gives a stiff competition to the British luxury sedan.
The video of the drag race between the 2023 Hyundai Verna and the Jaguar XF has been uploaded on YouTube by Pratham Shokeen on their channel. The video starts with the introduction of the two contenders of the drag race. The presenter mentions that the Verna in front is the 1.5L TGDi turbo petrol variant equipped with a DCT transmission. This mid-size sedan produces 160 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. He then states that the Jaguar XF in front is powered by a 2.2L diesel engine mated with an automatic transmission. The power figures of this luxury sedan are 190 bhp and 450 Nm of torque.

Following this, he mentions another key difference between both sedans; the Jaguar has a rear-wheel-drive configuration, while the Verna has a front-wheel-drive configuration. He then adds that, according to him, the Jaguar will win in the initial runs, but the Verna might catch up to it. He also states that the Jaguar is much heavier than the Verna. After the introduction, the YouTuber asks his friends who they think will win the race, to which half of them bet on the Verna and the other half bets on the Jaguar XF.
The presenter then takes the driving seat in the Jaguar XF and states the ground rules for the first drag race. He mentions that in the first race, both cars will be in sports mode, and their air conditioners will be on. He also adds that both cars will have their traction control systems off. Following this, the first race starts, and the Jaguar XF gets an aggressive launch, leaving the Verna in the dust and creating a huge gap. But after this, one shocking thing occurs, and the Verna, after reaching 160 kmph, overtakes the Jaguar XF.
After this, both cars lineup for a second race, and in this race, the Verna owner turns off the AC, leaving the rest of the settings as before. In this race as well, the Jaguar takes off the line much quicker and creates a huge gap. This time again, the Verna catches up to the Jaguar XF at 160 kmph. For the last round, they perform a rolling start race, and interestingly enough, the Jaguar XF falls behind by a huge margin, and the 2023 Verna takes the lead. The friend of the presenter then asks for a last rolling race but the presneter states that there is no point in racing as the Jaguar has huge turbo lag in the rolling start.
