Day 2 of the Auto Expo 2022 was a little calmer in comparison to the first day. Not a whole lot of automakers introduced new vehicles. However, the country’s largest PV manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) took the spotlight and introduced two of its long-awaited SUVs – the Fronx (YTB Baleno Cross) and the five-door Jimny. Other automakers that debuted a few new vehicles on the second day were the British automaker MG, Tata Motors, and the Japanese luxury carmaker Lexus.
First and foremost Maruti Suzuki showcased the highly anticipated Fronx premium crossover SUV at the show on the second day. The Fronx after being in talks for a good few months finally broke cover and was exactly as expected. Maruti Suzuki displayed the baby Grand Vitara based on the Baleno hatchbacks HEARTECT platform.
The Fronx on the exterior is heavily inspired by the mid size Grand Vitara and on the inside looks almost identical to the Baleno. Its gets a unique aerodynamic design. In terms of powertrain it gets a turbo-petrol engine of 1.0 litre which was first offered with the now discontinued Baleno RS. This engine at 5,500 rpm, produces a maximum power of 100 PS and a maximum torque of 147.6 Nm. It also comes with the option a 1.2-liter K-Series engine, on the other hand, which has a maximum power output of 89.73 PS and a maximum torque output of 113 Nm.

The new AllGrip Pro features 4L, which is low-range transfer gear, 2H, and 4H four-wheel drive on-the-fly. The Jimny five door will be powered by a 1.5 litre four cylinder naturally aspirated K15C Dualjet engine from MSIL. This engine generates 134.2 Nm of maximum torque and 104.8 PS of maximum power when assisted by a mild hybrid system. Standard transmission options include a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed torque converter.

The model has been developed locally by Maruti engineers with assistance from the Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan. It can operate on petrol with an ethanol-petrol combination of 20% (E20) to 85% (E85).
