The Mahindra Thar is currently the best-selling lifestyle off-roader in the country. However, one of its biggest rivals, the Jimny five-door from Maruti Suzuki, will soon be launched to take a chunk of the market share. The Jimny’s USP is its four doors, and taking note of this, the country’s largest utility vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra, is also planning to launch the five-door iteration of the Thar. The test mules of the five-door Thar have been spotted numerous times in the country, and recently another set of spy images of this soon-to-be-launched SUV have surfaced online.

According to reports, the car has been seen in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, and in the latest spy images, the five-door Mahindra Thar can be seen from a few different angles. The first picture shows the left front three-quarters of the SUV, and from this angle, we can note that it will be much more elongated than the outgoing two-door Thar. The SUV will get two additional doors in the middle. Currently, the precise dimensions of the SUV are unknown; however, some sources have suggested that it will be around 22 percent longer than the existing Thar two-door.

Apart from this, the spy shots also show the car’s side profile and rear end. We can note that the SUV will most likely retain all of the styling cues from the Thar two-door and will most likely get the front and rear end design. The only changes on the outside will be the newly designed alloy wheels. From a previous up-close walkaround of the car, it was shown that there will be a unique thing about the new additional two doors. The prior video showed that the door handles of the new five-door Thar’s middle doors will be placed vertically on the pillar like Maruti Suzuki Swift instead of the conventional door placement that is horizontal.
The previous walkaround video of the Thar 5 door also showed the car’s interior, and not much appeared to be changed on the dashboard of the five-door Thar. The infotainment screen, air conditioning system controls, steering wheels, and seats all looked the same as the outgoing two-door Thar. However, a few differences were that the roof of the new five-door Thar looked a lot more like standard passenger cars and had soft touch materials. The roof also had a sunglass holder and dome lights as well. The speakers on the roof were also missing. The video also showed the rear of the car, and it had a decent amount of legroom for the rear passengers.
In terms of the drivetrain options, according to sources, it will retain the 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engines from the Thar 3-door, both of which will be available with manual and automatic transmissions. Furthermore, previous spy images also showed that there will be a 4X2 option as well along with the standard 4×4 option. As for the launch date of the new five-door Thar, it is anticipated that the SUV could be making its debut sometime around June 2023. In terms of pricing, we can expect the Thar five-door to be launched in the range of Rs 14-15 lakh.
