New details about the 2023 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R have been leaked online, revealing its specifications and variant details ahead of the upcoming BS6 Phase 2 and RDE norms set to come into effect from 1 April. The updated Wagon R will be available with the same 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines, both of which will be tuned to meet the BS6 Phase II emission standards, ensuring better fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The engines are paired with a five-speed manual transmission or an AMT gearbox and feature Dualjet, Dual VVT, ISS, and cooled EGR technology.
The new 2023 Maruti WagonR will be offered in LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+ variants, while a CNG version generating 52bhp and 82Nm of torque will be limited to the LXi and VXi variants with the 1.0-litre powertrain. An Idle Start Stop (ISS) system will be standard across the variant lineup. The CNG version will offer a maximum power of 57bhp in CNG mode.
The wagonR was first launched in India way back in 1999, and it has been a solid performer through almost two and a half decades for India’s largest carmaker.

The Maruti WagonR is currently offered in 11 variants, with the base variant priced at Rs. 5.53 Lakh and the top-end variant priced at Rs. 7.41 Lakh. However, the sales figures of the Maruti WagonR saw a decline in February 2023, with only 16889 units sold, resulting in a 17.48 percent month-on-month decline. With the new emissions standards coming into effect, Maruti Suzuki aims to update its highly popular WagonR hatchback model lineup to meet the stricter emission norms.
Maruti Suzuki’s latest launch in the Indian market was the Grand Vitara SUV, which comes in petrol, CNG as well as petrol-electric hybrid variants. The Grand Vitara sold 9183 unites in February 2023, and its waiting periods extend up to 3 months.
