Tata Harrier and Safari are two prominent names in the Indian SUV market. The Harrier is a 5-seater SUV while the Safari comes with seven seats. Often buyers are confused about the differences in the two. Today, with the help of a YouTube video, we will cover the top models of both the SUVs and talk about the differences.
The YouTube video is uploaded by Turbo Talk which shows the walk around of both the SUVs. The cars shown here are top of the line trims, Accomplished Plus of the Safari and Fearless Plus of Harrier.
It is no surprise that the price difference between both SUVs is just Rs. 90,000, as Safari is an extended version of the Harrier. The price of Harrier starts at Rs. 15.49 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 26.44 lakhs. On the other hand, Safari’s price range is Rs. 16.19 lakhs to Rs. 27.34 lakhs.
The host starts with the exterior of the SUVs. The keys of both cars are exactly the same with lock/unlock, approach light and tailgate opening functions. Talking about the front fascia, it is exactly the same in both the SUVs. The Harrier shown here is the dual tone variant which is why it does not have a silver skid plate. Feature wise both the cars have the same headlight setup, connected DRL, ADAS and twin front parking sensors.
Coming to the side profile, the Safari is significantly longer to accommodate the third row. For the number, Safari measures 4668 mm while the Harrier measures 4605 mm in length. In comparison to Harrier, Safari is about 77 mm wider. The Safari comes equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels while the Harrier offers 18-inchers. Both the cars come with name badge on the door finished in chrome.
Design changes are significant in the rear, with the boot door design being the primary difference. Other than that, the taillights are the same connected unit. Similar to the front, the rear bumper of Safari comes with silver skid plates, which the Harrier dual tone version misses.
The host then talks about the differences in the interior. Tata Safari comes with a dual-tone interior theme finished in brown and white. In contrast, the Harrier comes with an all-black interior with body-colored accents. While the interior of Safari feels much more premium and exudes a luxury vibe, interior of Harrier is much easier to maintain. The overall design of the cabin remains exactly the same in both the cars.
Talking about the features, both cars offer the same tech. This includes a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, illuminated logo steering wheel with steering mounted control, 12.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless connectivity for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 360-degree cameras, panoramic sunroof, 10-speaker JBL sound system and many more.
In summary, the only differences between both the SUVs are third row seats, minor cosmetic changes on the exterior and different interior themes. Both the SUVs comes with the same 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine with exact power figures. Tata does not offer a petrol engine in their flagship SUVs. This engine produces above 168 hp and a massive 350 Nm of torque. Transmission options are also the same in both the SUVs, offering buyers a choice between 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
Both the SUVs have scored an impressive 5-star crash test rating in GNCAP. They offer a host of safety features including six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, seatbelt reminders, electronic brake-force distribution, ADAS and much more.
