Mahindra Thar is currently one of the most popular 4×4 SUV in the country. It is so popular that it currently has a waiting period of almost an year. Ever since Thar has been launched, we are seeing various off-road videos of the SUV online, Many have even modified the SUV to make it more off-road friendly. There are a bunch of Mahindra Thar owners who aim at making the SUV look a lot more premium than regular version. There are examples of such unique looking Mahindra Thar SUVs in the country and here we have one such video where a Mahindra Thar owner share her experience after modifying the SUV with 24 inch alloy wheels.
The video has been uploaded by Arun Panwar on his YouTube channel. The video starts with vlogger showing the main modification on this Mahindra Thar, the alloy wheels. The owner of this Thar had replaced the stock 18 inch alloy wheels for not 19, not 20 but 24 inch alloy wheels.

Owners mentions that she did this modification just to give her Thar a unique look or stance. She was already aware about the negatives of this modifications and still wanted to do it. Other modification on this Thar include aftermarket projector headlamps with integrated dual function DRLs and LED fog lamps. She had spent around Rs 2.65 lakh on the 24 inch alloy wheels.
She can be heard saying in the video that the Thar offers a decent ride quality if it is being driven on a smooth piece of tarmac but, the moment terrain changes all that is gone. The massive alloy wheels along with low profile tyre means the ride quality has taken a toll. The occupants can feel even the slightest bump or hurdle on the road.
This is not just the case with 24 inch wheels. if the owner had gone for 20 inch or 2 inch wheels, the outcome would have been the same. If it now a show car and cannot be driven off-road. Chances of getting the alloys broken are high and similarly the suspension of the Mahindra Thar will also be affected.
This modification will put a lot of pressure on the suspension setup and company warranty on the suspension will be void too. The massive wheels will definitely affect the ride and handling of the car. The owner can be heard saying in the video that the whole vehicle tends to vibrate at higher speeds.
owner mentions that she has other SUVs at her home and this one has been modified just for show purpose. She has driven the SUV for over 6,000 kms and she does not regret making this modifications to the SUV. She also says that if you are a person who loves to go off-road then never do these modifications on the SUV. Mahindra Thar is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The one seen here is the diesel variant. It is powered by a 2.2 litre mHawk turbo diesel engine. The petrol version is powered by a 2.0 litre mStallion turbo petrol engine. Both petrol and diesel versions are available with manual and automatic transmission options.
