25,000 Tata Nexon compact SUVs built in India

The Tata Nexon has just crossed a milestone. 25,000 units of the sub-4 meter compact SUV have been produced at the Tata-Fiat joint manufacturing facility at Ranjangaon, near Pune. The Nexon has been Tata’s fastest selling SUV till  date, with monthly sales numbers crossing the 25,000 mark. The compact SUV is a challenger to the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the Ford Ecosport and the Mahindra TUV300. However, the Nexon is much cheaper than all other sub-4 meter compact SUVs sold in India. This, along with feature-rich interiors, is making the Nexon sell like hot cakes.

The Nexon is sold with two engine options presently. The petrol engine is a 1.2 liter turbocharged unit that produces 108 Bhp of peak power and 170 Nm of peak torque. These are class leading outputs. The same is the case with the 1.5 liter turbocharged diesel engine, which also has best-in-class power and torque figures of 108 Bhp and 260 Nm. Both engines get 6 speed manual gearboxes and a front wheel drive mode is standard. Tata will soon add a 6 speed AMT option to both petrol and diesel versions of the Nexon. Again, this addition will make the Nexon the only sub-4 meter compact SUV in India to offer automatic options on both diesel and petrol engine options.

The Nexon gets a lot of interesting features on the inside. The floating infotainment screen design on the dashboard  is a unique touch inspired by luxury cars. Similarly, the sliding glove box on the center console is another luxury  car inspired feature. The Nexon gets a powerful stereo with a class leading 12 speaker layout from Harman. The SUV also gets drive modes that avry throttle response of the car depending on the mode selected – something that none of  the competitors offer. Prices of the Nexon starts from Rs. 5.99 lakhs, and the most expensive variant tops out at Rs.  9.62 lakhs.
