British luxury car marque Jaguar could reveal the 2nd generation, 2016 XF luxury sedan at next year’s New York Motor Show. The car, which replaced the S-Type and was first unveiled in 2007, got its latest facelift in 2011. Three years hence, the Jaguar XF is in danger of getting long in the tooth even as competitors line up update after update. The 2nd generation Jaguar XF luxury sedan is said to pack in an all new design, making it nattier than ever before. The bigger story around the 2016 Jaguar XF will however be that of the new iQ[Al] platform that the luxury sedan will hop onto.
The iQ[Al] platform of the 2016 Jaguar XF will be shared with the smaller XE sedan. The platform sharing will extend to the all-aluminium range of four cylinder, turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines. As is the case with the Jaguar XE, the 2016 XF luxury sedan will jack up the usage of aluminium in its structure and body shell, making for a much lighter and fuel efficient car than before. The rear wheel drive layout is expected to be retained as it is, with the 9 speed ZF automatic transmission, which made its debut on the Evoque, likely to be use on the 2016 XF sedan as well.
The insides of the 2016 XF luxury sedan are also expected to receive a comprehensive once over, with new features, infotainment and connectivity options thrown in for good measure. The new car could get larger than before, offering occupants heightened comfort levels. Expect Jaguar India to bring the 2016 XF to India in 2016, replete with CKD assembly to happen at the luxury car maker’s Chikhli assembly facility that it shares with SUV maker sibling, Land Rover. The current Jaguar XF has a high performance XFR-S version. The 2016 XF is expected to spawn a new version of the XFR-S, which will also use the aluminium heavy iQ[Al] platform.
