Maruti Suzuki decided to take a bold decision by thinking out of the box and creating a crossover SUV. The company showcased the Fronx at the 2023 Auto Expo and it instantly became a hit and a number of buyers queued in front of its booth to book one for themselves. Currently, the official launch dates of the SUV have not been revealed by the brand but it has been reported that the price reveal of the car could happen on April 7 and the official launch could soon follow it.

Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha are the five variants of the new crossover SUV that will be offered by the Indo-Japanese carmaker in the country. Both the new three-cylinder, 1.0-liter turbo-petrol Boosterjet engine and the 1.2-liter, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine, will most likely come equipped with Maruti’s mild-hybrid technology. While the latter generates 90 horsepower and 113 Nm, the former generates 100 horsepower and 147.6 Nm. Furthermore, the turbo-petrol engine may only be offered with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, the NA petrol engine may be available with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission.

Of all the three SUVs mentioned in this list, the lifestyle off-roader Jimny five-door from Maruti Suzuki is the most popular one here. The model is another testament to Maruti Suzuki’s out of the box thinking and even before its official launch the SUV has already garnered more than 16,500 bookings. The number could be lot higher as Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer at Maruti recently stated that they receive as many as 700-750 bookings every single day. It is believed that the SUV will be launched on May 15 this year.

The Suzuki AllGrip Pro system, which includes 2H, 4H, and 4L low-range transfer gear, will be standard on the brand’s only ladder-on-frame SUV. The Jimny will be powered by Maruti Suzuki’s time-tested 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated K15C Dualjet engine, which also powers the revised Ertiga and XL6 and the all-new Brezza. When assisted by a mild hybrid system, this engine produces 134.2 Nm of maximum torque and 104.8 PS of maximum power. A 5-speed manual transmission will be standard, but a 4-speed torque converter will be available as an option. Maruti Suzuki has modified the engine to make it more suitable for off-road driving.
