Ford to launch 5 new cars in India during 2021: Focus to Raptor

Ford India just launched a variant of the EcoSport in the Indian market. However, that’s not it. Ford has big plans for the Indian market and it called off the joint venture with Mahindra and Mahindra, there will be a lot of cars from the American automobile giant that will get launched this year in the Indian market. A report claims that Ford will bring out as many as five all-new cars to the Indian market later this year. Here are the upcoming vehicles.

Ford Focus

A modern iconic car – the Focus is quite popular in the European markets. Ford plans to bring it as a CBU, which will attract a lot of tax. But Ford will utilise the “No requirement for homologation for any model selling less than 2,500 units per annum” rule to bring the Focus. The Focus is much bigger than the i20 or the Baleno. In the international markets, Ford uses the 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine to power the Focus. It generates a maximum power of 125 PS. There is a more powerful 2.0-litre turbo-petrol direct-injection engine that generates a maximum power of 160 PS. Ford may price the hatchback at around Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom.

Ford Focus ST

The Focus ST is the more powerful version of the standard Focus. It comes powered by a 2.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 280 PS and a peak torque of 420 Nm. It gets a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic transmission. Ford has added quite a few advanced techs like rev-matching, electronic limited-slip differential, adaptive suspension with Continuously Controlled Damping Technology, twin exhausts and even high-performance Recaro seats.

Ford Ranger Raptor

The true blue American truck is quite popular in India. So much that there are many who have privately imported the Ranger Raptor to India. Nonetheless, officially it will come as a CBU and will be limited to under 2,500 units per year. The cost will be quite much because of the import taxes and we think that it will be around Rs 75 to 80 lakh, ex-showroom. The Ranger is almost like the Ford Endeavour under the skin and is powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 213 PS and peak torque of 500 Nm. It also gets a 10-speed automatic transmission. It is a high-performance, off-roading truck from the factory and gets features like reinforced chassis, 2.5-inch off-road spec Fox suspension, BAJA mode, 30 percent extra suspension travel compared to the standard Ranger, massive 283mm of ground clearance and a long list of other accessories. The Range Raptir will take on the likes of Jeep Wrangler Rubicon in the Indian market.

Ford Figo

The Ford Figo is a good car but it has not been updated much by the brand. That is why the Figo is falling behind on the sales chart compared to the competition. Ford is expected to launch the all-new Figo in the Indian market by the end of this year. Powering the Figo will be a turbo-petrol engine that Mahindra may supply. However, since the announcement of JV coming to an end, Ford and Mahindra have not updated with the new strategy.

Ford EcoSport

2020 2nd Generation Ford Ecosport Compact Suv

Ford EcoSport kicked off the popularity of the sub-4m compact SUVs in the Indian market. However, Ford has not updated the vehicle thoroughly since its launch while the competition have launched numerous new cars. Nonetheless, Ford is expected to use the mStallion engine from Mahindra that is likely to generate a maximum of 122 PS and peak torque of 149 Nm.
