Hyundai Creta demolished the segment with its constant high number sales since it was launched. The compact SUV offers a wide range of features and looks good too. To challenge the Hyundai Creta in the Indian market, there are five upcoming vehicles. Let’s find out which are those.
Kia Stonic
Kia is Hyundai’s subsidiary and the manufacturer will soon step foot in the Indian market. One of their products will be the Stonic that will challenge the Creta directly. The Stonic is based on the i20 platform and will get both petrol and diesel engine options.
The Stonic will also get manual and automatic transmission options. The car measures 4.4-metres in length. The Stonic looks quite modern and will get a long list of features. This will be a good alternative for the customers who are looking at the Renault Duster or the Hyundai Creta in India.
MG ZS
Chinese automaker SAIC will soon start its Indian operations and it has already taken over the GM’s Halol plant in Gujarat. SAIC will launch the MG Motor brand in India and its first vehicle, the ZS will be a direct competitor of the Creta.
The ZS SUV will soon go on sale in the UK market and we can expect the same vehicle in India. The MG ZS measures 4.5-meter in length. In China, the car is powered by a 1-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 123 Bhp – 175 Nm. There is also a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine that produces 118 Bhp – 150 Nm. SAIC may also bring a diesel engine option but no details have been revealed on the same.
Nissan Kicks
Nissan is working on a new product model, the Kicks for the Indian market. The Kicks will be based on the same B0 platform that forms the base of the Renault Captur and Duster. The Kicks is an urban SUV similar to the Captur but it will be priced below it in the market.
Engine details of the Kicks are not known yet. The Japanese manufacturer will most likely use the same 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine and the 1.5-litre petrol engine that will be offered with the Captur and also powers the Duster in India. We can expect a showcase of the vehicle during the 2018 Auto Expo and launch later in the year.
Mahindra S201
Mahindra is working on two new SUVs based on the SsangYong Tivoli. There will be one under 4-meter compact version of the same while it will also get an extended wheelbase version with 7-seats. The longer version of the S201 will take on the Creta in India.
SsangYong Tivoli also gets an extended wheelbase version in the international market but the extra room is used for the roomier boot space. In India, the extra will be utilised with an extra row of seat. The car is expected to be powered by both petrol and diesel engine options. There will be a 1.2-litre direct injection petrol engine that develops a maximum of 140 Bhp while the 1.5-litre diesel engine will develop around 125 Bhp.
Honda HR-V
The HR-V will become the fourth vehicle in the R-V series when launched. After the launch of the WR-V, which has gained some popularity in the market, Honda is looking forward to launching the HR-V. It sits above the WR-V in the lineup and will compete against the Hyundai Creta.
HR-V also sells in the Brazilian market just like the WR-V, and it is also built on the Jazz platform. It gets five seats and many premium features like electric sunroof, touchscreen infotainment and the touch panel climate control system. The SUV will be powered by the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that produces 115 Bhp. The diesel unit will the same 1.5-litre i-DTEC or 1.6-litre diesel unit.
