5 Really Hot Upcoming Hatchbacks For India

The hot hatchback market in India is expanding rapidly. From just having the Volkswagen Polo GT Twins to pick from, the hot hatchback enthusiast will soon have no less than 5 new offerings. Today, we round up the five new upcoming high performance hatchbacks for the Indian car market.

Fiat Abarth 500 Competizione

On August 4th, the Abarth high performance brand will touch down upon India. The first car from the Abarth brand will also be the smallest car. We’re talking about the Abarth 500 Competizione, a pint sized dynamo. The Abarth 500 sold in India will be a completely built unit (CBU), with pricing said to be close to the 30 lakh rupee mark. A 1.4 liter T-Jet turbo petrol engine will give this car plenty of performance, with outputs of 158 Bhp and 230 Nm. A 5 speed AMT unit will handle gear shifting.

Fiat Punto Abarth

If the 500 Abarth is too expensive for you, there’s hope. In time for Diwali this year, Fiat is expected to begin selling the Abarth Punto in India. The Punto with the e Abarth badge will offer some serious performance. It will borrow the 1.4 liter T-Jet turbo petrol engine from the Abarth 500, but with detuned outputs of 135 Bhp and 207 Nm. Even so, this will make the Punto Abarth the most powerful hot hatchback in its class. The killer however, will be the sub-10 lakh rupee price tag this car is likely to feature.

Fiat Avventura Abarth

Like the Punto Abarth, the Avventura Abarth is another car that is aims to pull enthusiasts to the Fiat fold in drives. The Avventure Abarth will share its engine and transmission with the Punto Abarth, which also means that it will be India’s most powerul hatchback based crossover. Apart from the more powerful engine, the Avventura Abarth will also get revised body work, making for a more exciting looking car. The handling dynamics are expected to be improved with new suspension bits.

Volkswagen Polo GTI

The Volkswagen Polo GTI has already been spotted testing in India, and the big daddy of hot hatchbacks could be launched here in a few months from now. Aiming to keep practicality intact, the Polo GTI sold here will be a five door version. The motor under the hood will be a 1.8 liter turbocharged petrol unit that puts out over 180 horses and 320 torques. A 7 speed DSG twin clutch automatic gearbox is expected to handle torque transmission to the front wheels. A steep price tag is expected. Enthusaists will love Volkswagen all the more if the automaker manages to keep the price under 15 lakh rupees.

Tata Bolt Sport

Tata Motors is seeking to infuse more excitement into its range of passenger cars. The Bolt Sport will be the first step in this direction. Shown at Geneva 2015, the Bolt Sport featured the 1.2 liter REVOTRON turbo petrol motor in 120 Bhp-170 Nm state of tune. The same tune is expected to be carried over to the production version, along with a close ratio gearbox and stiffer suspension. Revised body work and sportier interiors will round off the changes on the Bolt Sport, which is expected to debut late this year, with a price tag of under 10 lakh rupees.
