The Indian car market has already seen a few hot launches in 2018. A lot of new cars and updates of current cars are expected to be launched in India, this year. In May 2018, there are as many as 5 new affordable cars that are scheduled for launch. We give you a quick run through on what’s coming in.
Honda’s sub 4-meter compact sedan takes on the Maruti DZire and Hyundai Xcent in the Indian market. Honda will launch the all-new Amaze next month, on 16th May to be precise. Honda showcased the car at the 2018 Auto Expo and it gets an all-new body, which is much sharper, and has a boxier design when compared to the current generation Amaze.
The all-new Amaze will get as many as 8 new features that will allow it take on stiff competition. The car will get cruise control, an advanced 7-inch infotainment system, steering mounted controls, new grille, headlamps, new bumper and a bigger, more spacious interior. The car will be powered by the same set of 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. For the first time ever, Honda will offer CVT automatic transmission with the diesel engine option, making it a first in the affordable car segment.
Ford EcoSport S
Ford is planning to launch two new variants of the EcoSport in the Indian market. While one of the variants – Signature Edition will only get visual changes, there will be a more powerful Titanium S variant of the compact SUV that will be launched next month. The EcoSport S will be powered by the 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine that was discontinued with the launch of the new EcoSport.
The diesel will be the same 1.5-litre unit. The EcoSport will offer a better suspension set-up and a sharper steering wheel that will allow enthusiasts to enjoy the vehicle much more. It also gets additional features like a sunroof.
Toyota will enter a new segment in India with the Yaris. The much-awaited mid-size sedan has already been launched but deliveries will start only from May. The Yaris will only get a petrol engine but there will be many segment-first features to balance the absence of a diesel motor. The Yaris gets 7-airbags across all the variants.
It will also other first-in-segment features like an electrically adjustable driver seat, gesture sensing infotainment system, ambient lighting, roof-mounted AC vets, tyre-pressure monitoring system and 60:40 split rear seats. Yaris will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 108 PS and 140 Nm of maximum output. It also gets a 7-stepped CVT transmission as an optional feature.
Tata Nexon AMT
Tata will launch the much-awaited Nexon AMT in the Indian market next month. The Nexon will be the first car in the segment to offer a petrol AMT along with a diesel AMT version. Both the petrol and diesel engine options will get the 6-speed AMT option. The transmission will get features like hill hold and kick-down. The Nexon AMT will get a new colour and it will also be the most affordable automatic SUV in its segment.
The Hyundai Creta was recently spotted during a TV commercial shoot in India. The hugely-popular SUV will get refreshed headlamps, LED DRL, additional chrome around the grille and a new grille too. The bumpers will also be updated to keep the car fresh in the market.
The Creta will get the same 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 123 Bhp and a 151 Nm torque. The 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines will also remain the same as the current version. Buyers can opt for manual or automatic transmissions.
