500 Tata Tigor EVs Joins Zoomcar Rental Fleet

Indian automotive giant Tata Motors has tied up with Zoomcar, the car rental company supplying the latter with 500 of its Tigor electric sedans. The 500 Tigor electric vehicles supplied to Zoomcar will joint the car rental company’s fleet in the city of Pune.

The Tata Tigor EV is the electric variant of the best selling Tata car in the country and it marks the first time that a carmaker and a rental company have joined forces to promote electric mobility in India. The first group of Tigor EVs was recently flagged off at Concorde Motors in Baner, Pune by Shailesh Chandra, President, Electric Mobility Business and Corporate Strategy, Tata Motors and Greg Moran, Co-Founder and CEO, Zoomcar.

Speaking on the occasion, Shailesh Chandra, President, Electric Mobility Business and Corporate Strategy, Tata Motors said,

Tata Motors is strongly committed to this transformative journey and working with all like-minded partners to accelerate the enabling ecosystem. It is a great pleasure to announce our partnership with Zoomcar to offer shared electric mobility solution for the citizens of Pune. Tata Tigor EV will now be available on the self-drive rental platform, offered by Zoomcar, to enable zero-emission transport option for the citizens of Pune. We are confident that our customers will appreciate and enjoy the driving experience.”

Speaking about the partnership between Zoomcar and Tata Motors, Greg Morgan, the co-founder and CEO of the car rental company Commenting on the partnership, Greg Moran said,

“The Zoomcar team is thrilled to partner with Tata Motors to bring electric vehicles to Pune. This marks the beginning of a dynamic partnership within electric mobility and we expect to touch 20 cities and 500 electric vehicles with Tata over the next year.”

The partnership between Soomcar and Tata Motors will allow the citizens of Pune to drive the electric Tigor sedan before it becomes available to purchase for the general public. Before the new partnership, the electric Tigor was only available for government officials through Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), an energy service company owned by the Government of India. The Tigor along with another electric car from Mahindra are currently the only two cars offered to the Indian government through the EESL.

The Tigor EV is powered by a 30-kilowatt electric motor and a 216 amp hour battery pack. The Tigor EV has a range of 130 kilometres and the battery pack does support fast charging along with regular charging which allows it charge up through regular plug points. The top speed of the Tigor EV is 100 km/h. The electric Tigor also gets a few cosmetic changes in the form of blue accents along the exterior.
