6 new Fords for India: Kuga premium SUV to revamped Mustang muscle car

Ford India will not be present at 2018 Auto Expo that is scheduled to take place in February this year. However, The American car and SUV brand has a few noticeable upcoming cars that will be launched soon. Here are the six cars Ford will soon launch.

Freestyle

Launch: February 2018

The Freestyle is the Ford Ka (Figo) Cross that the brand sells internationally. Ford will make a few tweaks to make it Indian market friendly. The vehicle has already been spied testing in India and it will be revealed officially on 31st January.

The Freestyle will body cladding all around and will be much more aggressive looking than the Figo. It will take on the likes of Hyundai Active i20 and Volkswagen Cross Polo in India. The engines are expected to remain the same as Figo – 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. However, Ford is expected to replace the 1.2-litre petrol engine with a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine based on the 1.5-litre petrol Dragon engine that Ford introduced with the EcoSport last year.

Ford will launch the facelift version of the second generation Figo in India this year. The car has also been spied testing in India. The facelifted Figo is expected to get minor changes to the exterior design but Ford is expected to update the engines as well.

Ford will use the new 1.2-litre Dragon engine to power the Figo. Even though details like power figures are not out yet, reports suggest that it will get highest benchmarking against the rival engines like I-VTEC and K12. The 1.5-litre engine is also expected to get replaced by the new 1.5-litre Dragon engine. The 1.5-litre diesel engine will remain the same.

Figo Aspire facelift

Expected launch: Mid 2018

The Aspire will follow the design changes incorporated in the Figo facelift. The sedan is based on the Figo is expected to get similar changes including the engine updates. The Aspire takes on the highly popular vehicles like the Dzire and the Xcent which were recently updated. The new changes will keep the vehicle fresh in the market.

Ford’s halo product, the Mustang will be updated this year. The car has been unveiled internationally and has already been spotted testing in India. The car gets quite a makeover and looks different from the current version. The 2018 Mustang becomes sleeker and has a few noticeable changes.

Ford has also revamped the interiors completely. The vehicle gets smartphone integration based infotainment system. The 5-litre V8 engine has become more powerful and gets a 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford has also improved the ride quality of the vehicle.

Kuga based SUV

Ford offers two SUVs in India, the EcoSport and the Endeavour. The company is now planning to launch the Kuga based SUV in India to bridge the wide gap between the two. The Kuga based SUV will take on the likes of Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson in India.

The SUV is available in many international markets and the Indian model will be tweaked heavily. The Kuga offers both 2WD and 4WD internationally and the same may come to the Indian market. A price tag of between Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh is expected on the vehicle when it is launched.

Endeavour FL

Expected launch: Late 2018 or Early 2019.

The Endeavour facelift has already been spied in the international markets before the official unveiling. The vehicle has been spotted in Thailand and it gets subtle changes like a new grille and a new bumper. Other mechanicals like the engine and transmission are expected to be same as the current version of the vehicle.
