In the last couple of years, a lot of things have changed for India car manufacturer Tata Motors. They have gained popularity and are also coming up with interesting models for customers. Sales number for the brand has also gone up. There all-new design for the SUVs and other products along with the build quality is one among many reasons behind its rising popularity. Tata Motors is now planning to introduce more models to the market to strengthen their position. Tata is planning to launch 6 new SUVs in the market which is expected to be launched in coming years. Here is what is expected from Tata Motors.

Tata Punch Turbo

Tata launched the Punch micro SUV in the market last year and it quickly became popular among buyers. The rugged design and the 5-star safety ratings in Global NCAP crash test are some of the reason behind its popularity. One of the drawback of Tata Punch is the engine. It is available with a 1.2 litre, three cyinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. It is said that Tata is working on resolving this issue and are planning to introduce a more powerful turbocharged version of the engine. Just like Altroz i-Turbo, Punch Turbo will also generate 110 Ps and 140 Nm of torque.

In order to fill the gap between Tata Nexon and Harrier, the manufacturer is likely to launch a mid-size SUV. Tata is said to be working on a premium crossover or compact SUV that will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq in the segment. More information related to the same is not available at the moment but, like other Tata products the SUV is expected to have a distinct design. Tata is expected to offer the SUV with both petrol and diesel engine options.

Tata Nexon EV

Tata Nexon EV was launched in the market couple of years ago and now it is the best selling electric SUV in India. To maintain the position, Tata is now working on making some changes to the EV. The manufacturer is now planning to make some cosmetic upgrades along with an extended driving range. The car is expected to offer a 400 km range. The current version gets 312 km claimed range.

Tata Harrier and Safari petrol

Both Tata Harrier and Safari are popular SUVs in their respective segments. As we all know, Tata Safari is based on the 5-seater Harrier SUV. Both the SUVs are currently offered with a 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine only. Most of its rivals in the segment offer petrol and diesel engine options. This will soon change as Tata is working on a petrol engine for both the SUVs.

The engine is said to be an all-new 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol unit. This is expected to be an upsized version of the 1.2 litre turbo petrol version that is used in Nexon. The new engine is expected to produce 160 Ps in both the SUVs.

Tata recently introduced concept for their second generation electric car. The concept is called CURVV and has a coupe like exterior design. The production version of Tata Curvv is expected to be launched in India some time in 2024. It is going to be the first vehicle from Tata Motors which will be launched as an EV first. An ICE version of the SUV will be launched at a later stage.

Tata Motors showcased this concept at the Auto Expo in 2020. This concept attracted a lot of attention mainly because of the name it carried. Tata took inspiration from the original Tata Sierra SUV for this concept. Tata had then mentioned that it will think about bringing this concept to production depending on the response from people. Some reports have now surfaced online that suggest that Tata Sierra might be launched in the market as electric vehicle only.
