The prices of petrol and diesel are all-time high now in the whole country. Due to this, people have now seriously started considering vehicles with alternative fuels now. People are considering CNG vehicles more than electric vehicles because as of now electric vehicles still cost quite a bit more than regular vehicles. So, most of the manufacturers are now working on factory-fitted CNG. Here, are 7 cars that will soon be launching with a CNG powertrain.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire
Maruti Suzuki currently has the largest line-up of CNG vehicles. They are now testing the CNG version of the Dzire. It will come with the engine that Maruti Suzuki offered earlier. It produces 83 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. On CNG, the engine will produce 70 bhp of max power and 95 Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The largest automobile manufacturer of India launched the facelift of the Swift earlier this year. They will now be launching the CNG version of the Swift. It will also get the same previous 1.2-litre engine that will come with the Dzire CNG also. The engine will be producing 81 bhp of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. On CNG, the power output will decrease to 70 bhp and torque output will decrease to 95 Nm. It will be offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
The Vitara Brezza will be the first compact SUV to come with a CNG drivetrain. It will continue to come with the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine. The engine produces 104 PS of max power and 138 Nm of peak torque. When the engine is running on CNG, the power output is decreased to 92 PS of max power and 122 Nm of peak torque. It will only be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Tata Tiago
Tata is also working on a CNG variant of their hatchback, Tiago. There are no cosmetic changes to the CNG variant of the Tiago. It will come with the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine that produces 86 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. However, while running on CNG the engine would produce less power and torque figures.
Tata Nexon
Earlier, this year a Nexon was spied with an emission testing kit near Pune. It is believed that it could be the new CNG variant of the Nexon. If this happens then it will be competing against the Vitara Brezza CNG. It is still not known if Tata will be using the turbocharged petrol engine or the naturally aspirated engine. People are already using the CNG kits on their Nexon. We would just have to wait for Tata Motors to launch the new variant of the Nexon to get more details about the compact SUV.
Tata Tigor
Tata recently launched the electric version of the Tigor. They are also testing the CNG version of the Tigor. There have been spy shots of the Tigor on the Indian roads and while it was waiting in queue for CNG. There will be no cosmetic changes to the CNG variant. However, because Tigor is a sedan there would still be a decent amount of space left even after the CNG tank is fitted into the boot.
According to the rumours, Toyota is also working on a CNG version of the Innova Crysta. It will come with a 2.7-litre petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG. It is expected to come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine produces 166 PS of max power and 245 Nm of peak torque when it is running on petrol. The power outputs will decrease when the engine is running on CNG.
Honda Amaze CNG
A test mule of Honda Amaze was spotted with an emission kit. The compact sedan is already offered with a petrol as well as a diesel engine and Honda does not have turbo petrol in their line-up. So, the media rumours suggest that Honda was testing a CNG variant of the Amaze.
