The Indian SUV market looks all set to witness a lot of action this year. We have at least seven new models that will be launched by the end of this year. While some of these will be facelifts and new variants of existing models, others will be all-new vehicles. Here’s a quick look at the 7 SUVs coming to India by the end of this year.
Hyundai Creta
Hyundai is about to launch the revamped Creta in India. The Creta facelift will sport an updated front end and will even have some new features such as a sunroof and a wearable smart key. Styling changes will include a new Hexagonal grille, new bumper, and updated taillamps. It will also get a couple of new paint options. Engines are most likely to remain the same. However, the top-end model might be priced a little higher due to the introduction of new features. The Hyundai Creta facelift will launch later this month.
Ford EcoSport S
While the Ford EcoSport facelift was launched only a few months ago, it is already ready to get some new features and the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine from the pre-facelift version. Actually, Ford India will soon launch a new Titanium S trim that will offer some new features like a sunroof and sportier alloy wheels. Other than the new alloy wheels, the car will also have a blacked out grille, a black roof, black ORVM caps and black fog lamp housings. Talking about the interior, the car will get an all-black cabin. As we said, the EcoSport S will be powered by the same 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that powered the pre-facelift. However, the earlier 5-speed manual transmission will be replaced with a 6-speed unit. The Ford EcoSport S will also launch later this month. It’s expected to become the new flagship variant with a sticker price of upwards of Rs 11.5 lakh.
Jeep Compass Trailhawk
Jeep India will launch a new variant of the Compass later this year. Dubbed the Compass Trailhawk, this variant will come with the highly awaited 9-speed automatic transmission for the 2.0-liter diesel motor. Talking about the diesel engine, the 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine isn’t likely to get any change, which means it will continue to output 170 bhp-350 Nm. The Trailhawk variant is better at off-roading than the regular variants. Helping it become a more accomplished off-roader are features like Jeep Active Drive low-range 4WD, hill descent control and a ‘Rock Mode’ for Selec-Terrain 4WD system. Also, the Trailhawk benefits from as much as 20 mm of additional ground clearance along with better Approach- and Departure-angles. The Trailhawk is expected to launch around September this year. It will become the new flagship variant and is expected to cost upwards of Rs 22.5 lakh.
Honda CR-V
Honda Cars India plans to launch the new-gen CR-V, in India, later this year. The all-new CR-V has already made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2018 in February this year. Now, it’s looks set to take the premium SUV segment by storm with a diesel engine option, seven seats, and the high brand value that the Honda badge enjoys. The upcoming new-gen Honda CR-V will offer a 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 118 Bhp and 300 Nm. Also, the current 2.4-litre petrol engine will be carried over to the upcoming model. The Honda CR-V will launch during this year’s festiv season. It is expected to have a base price of Rs 22 lakh.
Mitsubishi Outlander
Mitsubishi India will soon launch the all-new Outlander SUV, in the country. The company has already started taking pre-bookings for the upcoming new-gen SUV. Akin to the last generation Outlander which was on sale in India, the upcoming new-gen car will be available in a petrol variant only. However, it will try to win some hearts using its modern design, off-roading hardware, and a long list of features. The Outlander should launch later this month and is likely to cost roughly Rs 25 lakh.
Mahindra S201
Mahindra and Mahindra is expected to launch a Tivoli-based SUV by Diwali this year. Internally codenamed as the S201, the upcoming SUV will rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza and other SUVs in the segment. Powering it will be new-age petrol and diesel engines that will offer high power, refinement and mileage. Moreover, the upcoming S201 SUV will not look exactly like the Tivoli. One can safely expect a new set of headlamps, a new bumper and the typical seven-slat Mahindra grille to make the upcoming Mahindra SUV look unlike the Tivoli. Pricing will be at par with the competition.
Mahindra XUV700
The last car in our list of upcoming SUVs in India, in 2018, is the Mahindra XUV700. The XUV700 is basically the new-gen Ssangyong Rexton G4 that has already made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2018. The company plans to launch it in India by the end of this year. There are high chances that it will be called the XUV700 and will sit above the highly popular XUV500 in the company’s product portfolio. It will take on the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour when it is available in India. It will launch by Diwali this year and will have a base price of upwards of Rs 22 lakh.
