Car buyers in India have started considering the build quality and safety rating as a parameter before buying a vehicle. Manufacturers have also worked on improving the same and offer safer cars to the buyers. We have manufacturers like Mahindra and Tata who have prioritised build quality of vehicle and these products have received good response from the customers too. Here we have a list of 7 such safe Indian cars that have secured 5 star ratings at Global NCAP crash test.
Tata Nexon
This is probably where it all started. the crash test on this SUV was conducted back in 2018. It was the first made in India car to score a 5 star rating at the Global NCAP crash test. It scored 5 star rating for adult occupant protection and 3 star for child protection. Nexon is currently the only car in the country to be offered in petrol, diesel and EV form. It is currently the best selling electric car in the country. The petrol version of the SUV is powered by a 1.2 litre turbo petrol and 1.5 litre turbo diesel engine options. It is available with manual and AMT gearbox options.

Tata Altroz
Altroz is Tata’s first premium hatchback in the market. Like Nexon, Altroz is also a well built car and in the Global NCAP crash test, it scored 5 star rating for adult safety and 3 star for child safety. Altroz is available in the market with a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.2 litre turbo petrol and a1.5 litre diesel engine option. The naturally aspirated version gets a dual-clutch automatic transmission option.
Tata Punch
The third product from Tata to score a 5 star rating at GNCAP is the Punch micro SUV. It is based on HBX concept which was showcased to public. The car comes with a petrol engine only. Punch scored 5 star rating for adult protection and 4 star for child occupant safety. It is available with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
Mahindra XUV300
After Tata, Mahindra makes some of the safest cars in the country. The XUV300 scored 5 star rating at GNCAP. It scored 5 star rating for adult occupant safety and 4 star for child occupant safety. It is available with a 1.2 litre turbo petrol and a 1.5 litre turbo diesel engine option. Mahindra recently launched the much powerful turbocharged petrol version of XUV300 in the market.
Mahindra XUV700
The XUV700 was launched in the market last year and it quickly became popular for its looks and features. It is the most technologically advanced SUV from Mahindra till date. The SUV scored 5 star rating at GNCAP. It scored 5 star for adult occupant safety and 4 star for the child safety. It is available with 2.0 litre turbo petrol and a 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine option. Both petrol and diesel are offered with manual and automatic transmission.
Skoda Kushaq
Kushaq is Skoda’s first product under the India 2.0 strategy. It was recently tested by Global NCAP and the results were surprising. This mid-size SUV scored 5 star rating at the crash test. It scored 5 stars for both adult and child safety. The SUV is offered with a 1.0 litre TSI and 1.5 litre TSI engine options.
Volkswagen Taigun
Taigun is based on the same platform as Kushaq. It also scored 5 star rating in the GNCAP crash test. Both adult and child safety ratings are 5 star too. It is offered with the same engine and transmission options.
