Hyundai has big plans for the Indian car market. The second best-selling manufacturer will soon get 1 billion USD for expansion in India. Their expansion plan will see the arrival of as many as 7 new cars and SUVs in the Indian market. Let’s find out all about these upcoming Hyundai cars in India.

Hyundai Santro

Expected launch: Mid 2018

The Santro moniker is expected to come back in an all-new avatar. The car will take on the likes of Maruti Alto and Renault Kwid in the very competitive small car segment. The new Santro will retain the tallboy design and is expected to be powered by the 1.1-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that powered the i10. It will get a manual and an AMT option. It will be based on the Hyundai i10 platform and will replace the ageing Hyundai Eon.  The car gets a fresh styling and is expected to get a sub Rs. 3 lakh price tag for the base model. We can expect the vehicle to be launched in the second-half of 2018 or in early 2019.

QXi Sub 4-meter SUV

Expected launch: End 2019

Hyundai will also launch a sub 4-meter compact SUV in India to take on the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and Tata Nexon. The car will be powered by turbocharged petrol and diesel engine options. Hyundai showcased the Carlino concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. The upcoming new car will be based on the same concept. A production version is expected to be showcased in early 2019.

Hyundai Kona electric

Expected launch: 2019

Hyundai is planning to enter the electric segment in India. Their first electric car is expected to be the Kona electric SUV that was revealed recently. Hyundai is expected to showcase the electric Kona next year. Technical details of the upcoming model are scarce at the moment. The only available information is that the electric motor of the SUV will be able to propel the vehicle for 384 km on a single full charge. The vehicle has been confirmed for a 2019 launch.

Hyundai Ioniq

Expected launch: 2019

The Hyundai Ioniq is an all-new car built on the zero-emission platform. Hyundai has not confirmed which powertrain of the vehicle will be showcased in India though. The Ioniq sedan is available with petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains in the international markets and Hyundai showcased both the powertrains in India too.

The full-hybrid sedan is powered by 1.6-litre GDi engine that develops a maximum of 102 Bhp and 147 Nm of torque. There will be an electric motor that will add another 42.4 Bhp and 169.4 Nm of torque. The all-electric version is powered by 118 Bhp – 295 Nm electric motor and it can go up to 200 km on a single charge. The cars will reach India as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units. This move is expected to keep prices low, at around Rs. 25 lakhs.

Hyundai Tucson GLS+

Expected launch: Mid 2018

Hyundai will launch the GLS+ variant of the Tucson to take on the Jeep Compass. The Tucson is the quickest SUV in the segment and Hyundai will add more features to it to gain the market’s attention. The additional features will be a panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats. Mechanically, the car will remain same as the existing variants of the Tucson.

Hyundai Genesis

Expected launch: 2019

Hyundai is considering to launch the Genesis premium sedan in India. This is the most expensive car from the brand and takes on vehicles like the BMW 5-Series and the Audi A6. Considering the brand name of Hyundai, people may not like the idea but it may work in Hyundai’s way too. It will be a CBU vehicle and will be imported to India.

Hyundai Elantra Sport

Expected launch: 2019

Hyundai is also considering to launch a performance version of this sedan to take on the Skoda Octavia vRS. The Elantra Sport is powered by a turbocharged petrol engine that develops around 201 Bhp, which is 54 Bhp more than the regular version of the car. The Elantra Sport also gets larger wheels and subtle styling changes that make it more aggressive.
