Earlier this week, CarToq.com members polled on the question: “Is the Ford Classic a better deal after
the price cut than the Maruti Dzire?”
Nearly 400 people gave their instant feedback on the site, after Ford recently cut price on the top-
end Ford Classic Titanium by Rs 48,000. This top-end model is still Rs 50,000 more expensive than
the segment leader, Maruti Dzire’s top-end model.
And yet, an overwhelming majority (76%) voted that the Ford Classic is more value-for-money now.
Here are the reasons why this is a popular opinion among CarToq.com members
More interior space, bigger boot
The Ford Classic is a far bigger car compared to the Dzire. It also has a bigger boot at 430 litres
compared to the diminutive 316 litre in Dzire. The Classic looks like a complete car, with a longer
bonnet and proportionate cabin.
Ford has added new features with the price cut such as: Reading lamps for the rear seat, drop-down armrest with cupholders and electric boot release. This makes the two cars more-or-less equal in features they offer now. The Classic offers Bluetooth phone functionality, which the Dzire doesn’t. But the Dzire offers automatic climate control, which the Classic doesn’t. Alloy wheels, integrated audio system, two airbags and ABS are standard on both.
So what Ford seems to have achieved with the price cut is that the bigger Classic available at Rs. 50,000 more than the Dzire, seems a much better buy now compared to the cramped Dzire.
However, the Dzire is a best-seller, selling over 13,700 cars in June, compared to 1,095 Ford (Fiesta) Classics sold before this price cut. With fresh problems in Maruti’s factory now, are you planning to switch to the Ford Classic? Share your views on the poll here.
