2018 will be a witness to many new car launches. Like we’ve been reporting, there’s an entire range of facelifts and all-new models that are headed our way. While some of the upcoming new cars in India will be models that won’t have any sort of link with an existing version (eg. Toyota Yaris), others will be either all-new versions or facelifts of cars already sold here. Such cars will launch with more features, better looks, and in some cases, even with more power. Here, in this post, we take a look at the upcoming facelifts/new versions that will offer more power –
Ford Figo Facelift
Ford will soon launch the Figo facelift sometime after introducing the Freestyle C-SUV. Basically, the Freestyle is nothing but a slightly rugged version of the upcoming Figo Facelift. Both the new cars feature some visual tweaks that make current-gen Figo look more attractive. While the Freestyle even gets body-cladding, roof rails, et all for a more rugged appearance, even the Figo facelift will come with a new grille and enhanced styling to look better. However, that’s not the reason for this car to be featured here. The highlight here is the new 1.2-litre Dragon petrol engine that the car will come with. The new engine will replace the current 1.2 TiVCT and will offer more power and torque. The engine will be available in both the Freestyle and the facelift.
Ford Aspire Facelift
The launch of the Freestyle will be followed by that of the Aspire facelift. The company has already ceased producing the pre-facelift Aspire. Akin to the upcoming Figo facelift, even the Aspire will get the new 1.2-litre Dragon series motor instead of the current 1.2 TiVCT. Moreover, there are good chances of this car getting even the 1.5-litre Dragon engine for the automatic variant. Both the new engines in the Dragon series are more powerful than the motors that power the pre-facelift Aspire. They offer more power and higher torque, which should lead to a better overall performance.
Mahindra TUV300 Plus
Mahindra will soon launch the new TUV300 Plus. The TUV300 Plus is a longer version of the regular TUV300 that will offer more seats. While the regular TUV300 comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine to benefit from a lower excise duty, the TUV300 Plus measures more than 4-meters in length and hence, won’t need to have a 1.5-litre motor. Hence, the company has found it only apt to equip the TUV300 Plus with a more powerful engine. This is the same 2.2-liter mHawk motor that powers the Scorpio. This turbocharged diesel engine offers a maximum power of 120 bhp along with a peak torque of 280 Nm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
Tata Tiago JTP
Tata Motors, in partnership with Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives, is working on the upcoming Tata Tiago JTP. The JTP is basically a more performance-oriented variant that will be powered by the same 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Nexon. This engine outputs a maximum power of 110 PS along with peak torque of 150 Nm. Other than a more powerful engine, the car will also feature performance-tuned suspension and transmission. Prices of the car are likely to start around Rs 7 lakh.
Tata Tigor JTP
Even the Tigor will get the JTP treatment. Much like the Tiago hatchback, the Tigor JTP will get the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Nexon. It will output a maximum power of 110 PS along with a peak torque of 150 Nm. Visually, both the JTP-versions will come with a sportier exterior and a jazzed-up interior to complement the racy looks on the outside. The Tigor JTP will be slightly costlier than the Tiago JTP.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Facelift
The highly popular Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is about to get a rather comprehensive facelift that will inject some freshness into the C2-segment sedan. It’s highly likely that the Ciaz would get a set of new engines for the upcoming facelift. The new motors will include a new M15A 1.5-litre petrol engine that outputs a maximum power of 108 Bhp along with a peak torque of 138 Nm. The current diesel engine, which is a Fiat-sourced 1.3-liter Multijet motor, will be replaced with a new 1.5-litre diesel engine that is being developed by Suzuki. The new motors will be much more powerful than the 94 PS petrol and 90 PS diesel engines of the current car.
Maruti Ertiga – August 2018
Maruti will launch the next-generation Ertiga MPV in August this year. The next-gen Ertiga by the lightweight HEARTECT platform. The new Ertiga will be larger in dimensions and will offer more features. Powering the next-gen Ertiga will be the same 1.5-liter motors that are expected to power the Ciaz facelifts. This means that the second-gen Ertiga will get a 108 bhp M15A petrol and an indigenously developed 1.5-liter diesel engine.
Maruti Swift Sport
The new Maruti Swift Sport will become the most powerful hatchback to wear a Maruti Suzuki badge It will feature a 1.4-liter BoosterJet turbocharged petrol engine that outputs a maximum power of 140 Bhp along with a peak torque of 230 Nm. The motor will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The car will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels. Combined with the lightweight, this high-strung petrol unit will make the Swift Sport even quicker than the Fiat Punto Abarth. It will also make the Maruti Swift Sport the fastest affordable hot-hatch in India.
