8 new Hyundai cars & SUVs coming to India: Santro to all-new Creta

The second-largest car selling brand in India, Hyundai, is working on strengthening their line-up in India. Hyundai will infuse as much as 1 billion USD in the Indian market to make its position stronger in the expanding market and in the next two years, the brand will launch as many as 8 new cars. Here are all the new cars that will be launched in India by 2020.

Hyundai Santro

Expected launch: September/October 2018

The Hyundai Santro moniker is coming back to India and the brand has been testing the upcoming car quite extensively. The all-new vehicle will take on the likes of Renault Kwid and Tata Tiago in the Indian market, which is a quite competitive segment. The upcoming car will be based on the same i10 platform that was discontinued in the Indian market sometime back.

The new Santro will retain the tallboy design and is expected to be powered by the 1.1-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that powered the i10. Keeping up with the times, the hatchback will also get an AMT automatic transmission along with the manual transmission. It is also expected to get a feature-loaded interior just like other Hyundai cars.

QXi Sub 4-meter SUV (Brezza/Nexon rival)

Expected launch: Late 2019

Hyundai showcased the Carlino concept at the 2016 Auto Expo and soon will launch the vehicle in the Indian market. Hyundai already rules the compact SUV segment with the Creta and the sub-4-meter SUV segment is growing rapidly too. The production version of the Carlino, which is internally codenamed as QXi will take on the highly competitive cars like the Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the Maruti Vitara Brezza. The engine details are not known yet but as it will launch closer to the BS VI pollution norm implementation, it is expected to get a turbocharged petrol engine and a new diesel engine.

Hyundai Kona EV

Hyundai has been working to launch their first-ever electric vehicle in the Indian market and they have now confirmed that the Kona electric SUV will be launched in 2019. The SUV is available in hybrid and electric drive layouts in the international markets, but the Indian market will only see the electric version of the vehicle.

The Kona EV will be assembled in India and will come as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit to keep the cost low. The Kona EV is available with two different battery options in the international markets – 39 kWh and 64 kWh. The Indian market is expected to get the car with the higher battery capacity as there is no electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the country at the moment. With the 64 kWh battery, the Kona offers around 480 km of range.

All-new Creta

Expected launch: 2020

The all-new Creta has already captured most of the market share in the segment in India. Hyundai is now working on the second-generation Creta that will be based on the same platform as the Kia SP. The all-new Creta will come in two configurations – 5-seater and 7-seater. No pictures of the upcoming vehicle have surfaced till now. The new-generation Creta is expected to get a completely revamped front and rear, but the silhouette of the car will remain similar to the current version of the SUV.

All-new Tucson

Expected launch: 2019

Hyundai is also working on the all-new Tucson and the upcoming model has already been caught testing in the international markets. The all-new SUV will get significant changes that will change the way it looks with an all-new grille, headlamps, tail lamps and other body panels. Engine details of the upcoming car have not been revealed but it is expected to get either a 2.0-litre petrol engine or a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The diesel engine will also be updated to keep with the emission norms.

All-new Elite i20

Expected launch: 2020

Even though the current Elite i20 looks quite fresh, the car is coming to the end of its life cycle. Hyundai is working on an all-new version of the car that will launch in 2020. The all-new version of the Active i20 has already been caught testing in the international markets and the same changes are expected to happen in the Elite i20. The all-new Elite i20 will get a new platform and will get a fresher face with all-new headlamps, tail lamps and interior. The car is also expected to get new-age engines that will comply with latest emission norms.

All-new Grand i10

Expected launch: 2020

The Hyundai Grand i10, which is a global car, will also get a full model change in a couple of years’ time. The Grand i10 takes on the cars like the Maruti Swift and the Ford Figo in the Indian car market and is known for its long list of features and spacious interiors. The all-new Grand i10 is expected to become lighter and will get all-new engines to meet the stringent emission norms.

All-new Xcent

Expected launch: 2020

The Xcent is the sub-4-meter sedan version of the Grand i10 hatchback. Just like the Grand i10, the Xcent received a mid-life facelift recently. With the Grand i10 getting a new platform and new engines, the Xcent will also get the similar updates. Even the all-new sedan is expected to get the high level of feature list and spacious interiors.
