The second half of the year holds some very exciting launches. People who want more power on the tap in their next vehicle will not be disappointed. Here are eight cars for enthusiasts who want POWER but don’t want to spend ridiculous amounts of money.
Hyundai Verna
Launch: August 2017
Hyundai will launch the all-new Verna in India soon. The new vehicle has already gone on sale in the international market. The new-generation Verna gets a new headlamp with LED DRLs, a larger grille and a new bumper. The Verna also gets updated rear design with split headlights.
Hyundai will plonk the 1.6-litre diesel engine that produces 126Bhp-259 Nm, making it the most powerful car in the segment. Other engine options will be 1.6-litre petrol producing 121Bhp-155Nm, 14-litre diesel producing 89 Bhp-220 Nm and 1.4-litre petrol producing 106 Bhp-135 Nm.
Tata Nexon
Launch: August 2017
Tata first compact SUV in the market has created immense buzz. Tata will launch the Nexon soon, and it will compete against the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. The Nexon looks fresh with an all-new design and bits like LED headlamps and taillamps.
The Nexon will be the most powerful compact SUV in the segment. The car will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 110 Bhp and peak torque of 260 Nm. The EcoSport diesel produces only 99 Bhp while the Vitara Brezza has a maximum output of 89 Bhp.
Jeep Compass
Launch: August 2017
The Jeep Compass is one of the most awaited vehicles of 2017. The most affordable Jeep will be launched soon in India. The Compass gets a lot of bells and whistles for off-road and safety.
The Compass will come powered by a 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine that generates a maximum of 180Bhp – 350 Nm. Jeep will also launch the petrol variant at a later stage. The petrol engine will be a 1.4-litre Multi-Air engine that produces a maximum power of 160 Bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque.
Skoda Octavia vRS
Launch: September 2017
The vRS badge is making a comeback in India, and there is every reason to be excited about it. Skoda will launch the new generation Octavia vRS in India this year. The sedan will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 227 Bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque.
The engine will get 6-speed DSG automatic transmission, and there will be no option of a manual. The car will look similar to the upcoming Skoda Octavia that will be launched this month. It will get split headlamps similar to the new model along with a body kit to distinguish it with the regular Octavia. The expected price will be around Rs. 30 lakh.
Ford EcoSport
Launch: September 2017
Ford EcoSport was the first ever successful compact SUV in the Indian market. With the rising competition from the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford will launch a facelift version of the EcoSport to keep the product fresh in the market. The new EcoSport comes with a new grille, which is bigger than the current version. The car also gets touch-screen infotainment system.
Ford will keep the engine same which means, the EcoSport will maintain the crown of “most powerful compact SUV”. The car will be powered by 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that churns out a maximum power of 124 Bhp and maximum torque of 170 Nm. There will be the regular 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines too.
Tata Tiago Sport
Launch: November 2017
Tiago growing popularity forced Tata to replace the Bolt Sports with the Tiago Sport. The Tiago Sport will be the cheapest hot hatch in the country when launched. It will come with minimal equipment but enough power to fill that void.
Tata will power the Tiago sport with the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will be used in the RaceMo. It will be in different tune and will produce a maximum of 120 Bhp. It will come with a price tag of about Rs. 5.5 lakh.
TaMo RaceMo
Launch: January 2018
The RaceMo will be Tata’s subsidiary – TaMo’s first ever car in the market. The car is made on Tata’s all-new MoFlex platform and has been designed by Tata’s design studio in Turin, Italy. The RaceMo is a budget sports car and will carry a price tag of around Rs. 25 lakh. The car features gullwing doors and looks extremely futuristic.
Tata will power the 2-seater sports car with an al-new 1.2-litre petrol engine. The 3-cylinder turbocharged engine will produce a maximum power of 186 Bhp and a peak torque of 210 Nm. It will come with a 6-speed AMT. The RaceMo is a mid-engined vehicle and weighs only 800 kg, which will give it a thrilling power-to-weight ratio.
Mahindra XUV Aero
Launch: Late 2018
Mahindra has recently confirmed the XUV Aero concept is getting a green signal for production. The SUV-Coupe will the most affordable vehicle of its type. Mahindra will be powered by 2.2-litre mHawk engine that will churn out a maximum power of 210 Bhp.
The XUV Aero will be the most powerful Mahindra vehicle in the line-up and will be able to do 0-100 km/h in about 6 seconds. The Aero will also come with a lot of unique features a new touch-sensitive infotainment system and possibly suicide doors.
