8 upcoming SUPER affordable cars: New Maruti WagonR to Hyundai Santro

The Indian car market now boasts of some very interesting cars. While car manufacturers have launched a few interesting vehicles in the first part of 2018, there is still a bag full of super affordable cars that will be launched soon in the market. Here are eight such cars that will be launched in India soon.

Maruti Alto

Expected launch: February 2019

The entry-level car from India’s biggest manufacturer will soon be updated in India. The Alto has remained one of the top-selling cars since its introduction in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki India is working to launch the all-new hatchback that will meet the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assesment Program (BNVSAP) early next year.

The all-new Alto will be inspired by the one sold in the Japan but the final design of the vehicle has not been revealed yet. It is expected to get a new 660-cc engine that generates a maximum of 51 Bhp and 63 Nm.

Hyundai Santro

Expected launch: August 2018

The Santro moniker will make a comeback, in India, later this year in an all-new avatar. Hyundai has been testing the all-new product and it has been spotted numerous times on the Indian roads. The all-new hatchback gets the same Hyundai i10 platform that has been discontinued from the market.

The hatchback will be positioned between the Eon and the Grand i10 but eventually, the Eon will be discontinued from the Indian line-up. The car is internally known as AH2 and gets a 1.1-litre petrol engine that generates a maximum of 68 Bhp and 100 Nm. It is also expected to get AMT automatic transmission.

Renault Kwid

Expected launch: 2019

The Renault Kwid that is the company’s highest selling car in India, scripted the success story for the brand in the domestic market. The entry-level car from the brand will get a minor facelift soon and the upcoming car is currently being testing in European markets.

The Kwid is expected to get a refreshed front and rear with new bumpers, head lamps and tail lamps. Overall, the car will retain its shape. The engine options are expected to remains the same as the current ones. Renault offers 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol engines with the hatchback in India.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR

Expected launch: 2019

The WagonR is the top-selling car for the brand since its launch. The WagonR has been thoroughly updated in Japan but the Indian version has remained the same for a long time now. Maruti is expected to launch the third generation of the WagonR soon with some major updates.

The India-spec WagonR will get a revamped front and rear styling and a larger body. The list of standard features will also increase, and the tall-boy will offer features like seat-belt warning, reverse parking sensors and ABS. The 1.0-litre engine of the WagonR is expected to be unchanged.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR 7-seat

Expected launch: End-2018

Maruti Suzuki India showcased the WagonR with seven seats at the previous edition of Auto Expo. The Suzuki Solio, which is available in international market, is expected to be rebadged as the WagonR 7-seater for India. The car has already been spotted testing in India and will be launched later this year. The WagonR 7-seats will compete with the likes of Datsun Go Plus and will carry an extremely affordable price tag.

Ford Figo

Expected launch: August 2018

Ford has already launched the Freestyle in India, which is based on the facelifted Figo. Later this year, the American car brand will launch the Figo hatchback in India too. The facelifted Figo will get a new grille, a new bumper, new alloy wheels and all-new interiors. The car will be powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Dragon series engine that generates the segment-leading 96 Bhp. The car also gets features like touchscreen infotainment system.

Datsun Go Plus

Datsun, which the low-cost arm of the Nissan will soon launch a new version of the Go in India. The Go Plus is the most affordable 7-seater car in India. However, the response from the market has not been that great. Datsun is expected to attract more customers with the launch of the Datsun Go Plus in India.
