In a recent incident that has garnered attention, the highly popular Tamil movie actor Thalapathy Vijay’s Toyota Innova Crysta MPV was fined by the Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) for jumping a traffic signal. This violation by the actor’s MPV was captured on camera by a news crew and quickly spread. This is not the first time the actor’s name has come into the spotlight for an offense. Prior to this incident, the Madras High Court directed the Tamil actor to pay Rs 1 lakh for failing to pay the entry tax on his Rolls Royce Ghost luxury sedan.
According to reports, this particular incident occurred on East Coast Road (ECR) near Akkarai when Vijay’s Toyota Innova Crysta crossed the traffic signal even before it turned green. The GCTP promptly took action and fined the actor’s vehicle 500 rupees. It is important to note that the fine was paid by the actor’s staff, highlighting their acknowledgment of the violation. Additionally, the media crew’s footage also revealed other concerning violations. Some cameramen on two-wheelers were seen riding without helmets and even riding in groups of three, further emphasizing the need to adhere to traffic regulations.

This is not the first time Vijay has faced a fine for traffic violations. In November 2022, he was fined for flouting tinted glass norms. The police caught the Innova with tinted glass, which had been spotted with the actor on multiple occasions. Similarly, another South Indian superstar, Allu Arjun, was also busted for using tinted glasses on his Range Rover. During special operations, the Hyderabad Police stopped Allu Arjun’s Range Rover and issued a challan of Rs 700 to the actor. The Hyderabad Police also removed the tints from the car on the spot.
As mentioned, the above cases are not the only instances where the actor’s name has been associated with offenses. One of the most significant offenses committed by actor Vijay was evading tax on his Rolls Royce Ghost Series I sedan. For those unaware, the Madras High Court has directed Tamil actor Vijay to pay Rs 1 lakh for failing to pay the entry tax on his Rolls Royce Ghost. Actor Vijay was fined Rs 1 lakh by Justice S M Subramaniam. The actor attempted to avoid paying the tax by contesting the commercial tax department’s demand for payment, and as a result, the court issued the punishment.
The court rejected the actor’s plea and instead issued a statement saying, “Those fans see such actors as real heroes. In a state like Tamil Nadu, where such actors have become rulers of the state, they are not expected to behave like a ‘reel hero.’ Tax evasion is to be construed as an anti-national habit, attitude, and mindset, and unconstitutional. These actors portray themselves as champions who bring social justice to society through their movies, which are against corrupt activities. However, they are evading tax and acting in a manner that is not in line with the provisions of the statutes.”
