The Indian auto scene is growing at a pretty decent rate. Although the sales have been going low of late, the market itself is getting matured. A lot of new manufacturers are about to enter India in the coming time and this will further increase the options in the market. Over time, the cars on sale in India have been getting better along with having cleaner and more powerful engines. When we sat to compile this list of cheapest 100 Bhp+ cars, we mostly had some hot hatches in mind apart from a few sedans. That, however, didn’t turn out to be the case. Read along to know the cheapest 100 Bhp plus cars on sale in India. Before you start, be ready to get surprised as there are quite a few unexpected entries too.

Tata Tiago JTP

Price: Rs. 6.39 lakh

The Tiago JTP is the cheapest performance hatchback in the country right now. However, that certainly does not mean its tame in any way. In fact, it is the only hot hatch to get a reworked suspension, lowered ground clearance along with a sporty exhaust. It is powered by a three pot petrol motor which churns out 112 Bhp of power and 150 Nm torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The Tiago JTP also gets sporty interiors with red highlights across the cabin along with JTP badging. All this and more for just Rs. 6.39 lakhs, quite a deal it is for sure.

Volkswagen Ameo

Price: Rs. 7.01 lakh

The Volkswagen Ameo is the cheapest sedan in India with 100 Bhp plus power. The Trendline 1.5 diesel variant of the sedan is priced at Rs. 7.01 lakh, which is quite cheap for the kind of engine it has. Volkswagen has fitted it with a 1.5-litre diesel unit that churns out 109 Bhp of power along with 250 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, though there is an option of the brilliant 7 speed DSG unit too but that is much more expennsive. Though it may not have any enthusiastic focus, it is still the most powerful sedan at that price.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

Price: Rs. 7.44 lakh

A surprise entry on the list, the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the third cheapest vehicle with 100 Bhp on tap. The base LXi variant of the Ertiga is priced at Rs. 7.44 lakhs and is powered by a 1462 cc petrol engine that churns out 103 Bhp of power along with 138 Nm of torque. It also gets a good ARAI certified fuel efficiency rating of 19.34 km/l. The Ertiga may not be all that great for enthusiastic driving but that’s not what this list is about. Since here we are talking about the cheapest 100 Bhp plus cars irrespective of their type and usage, the Ertiga comes third.

Tata Tigor JTP

Price: Rs. 7.49 lakh

Next is the Tigor JTP, which is probably the only performance oriented sedan under Rs. 10 lakh. It comes with many changes over the regular Tigor like sportier bumpers, larger air intakes, new fog lamp housing, blacked out headlamps and grille with JTP badging among others. This is continued on the interior front as well with JTP badging all around and sportier overall theme. It is powered by the same three pot petrol motor which powers the Tiago JTP and churns out 112 Bhp of power along 150 Nm torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.

Ford Figo Ti-VCT AT

Price: Rs. 7.70 lakh

The recently launched facelifted version of the Ford Figo comes with some new kit along with updated body design. What it also comes with is a stonker of a diesel motor that makes it among the most powerful cars under Rs. 10 lakhs. The 1497 cc motor churns out 121 Bhp of power along with 150 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Figo Ti-VCT AT is priced at Rs. 7.70 lakhs and it is also the top of the line variant of the Figo, behind just the Blu edition.

Ford Ecosport

Price: Rs. 7.83 lakh

The Ford Ecosport is responsible for popularizing the sub-4 meter SUV segment. The base variant of the SUV is priced at Rs. 7.83 lakh and gets powered by a 1497 cc petrol engine that is also found under the hood of the Figo and the Aspire. This engine churns out 121 Bhp of power along with 150 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is also a more powerful 1 litre Ecoboost engine equipped variant with 124 Bhp-170 Nm output but that’s well over Rs. 10 lakh.

Mahindra XUV300

Price: Rs. 7.90 lakh

Next in line is the newly launched Mahindra XUV300, that comes with both petrol and diesel engine options, both of which produce more than 100 Bhp and can be had for much less than Rs. 10 lakhs. The base W4 petrol variant is priced at Rs. 7.90 lakhs and is powered by a 1197 petrol motor that churns out 110 Bhp of power along with 200 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The base W4 diesel, on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 8.49 lakhs and is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out 115 Bhp of power along with 300 Nm of torque.

Renault Duster

Price: Rs. 7.99 lakh

The Renault Duster has grown pretty old in the market but still has some tricks up its sleeves. One among them is its 1498 cc petrol engine that churns out 105 Bhp of power along with 142 Nm of torque. The base RxE petrol variant comes with this engine and is priced at Rs. 7.99 lakhs. This makes the cheapest compact SUV in India with more than 100 Bhp on tap. Renault will launch the facelift version of the Duster this year but it will not be the generation update model that is on sale in the international markets.

Skoda Rapid

Price: Rs. 7.99 lakh

The Skoda Rapid was not quite expected to be present on this list but here it is. The base Active 1.6 MPI variant of the C-segment sedan retails at 7.99 lakhs, which makes it the most affordable C-segment sedan with 100 plus Bhp. It is powered by a 1598 cc petrol engine that puts out 104 Bhp of power along with 153 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a5 speed manual gearbox.
