All-new 2017 Mercedes GLA unveiled

The year has just begun and the first international auto show of the year, the NAIAS (Detroit motorshow) is already underway. While this is a global event, there are a few vehicles that will be India bound too, eventually. One such vehicle is the all-new Mercedes GLA, which made its global debut just a few hours ago.

What’s new?

All-new 2017 Mercedes GLA unveiledThe GLA continues to be the compact crossover that it always was. There is no radical change in design, however this is a minor makeover given to the model line to keep it fresh. The new vehicle now gets modified bumpers, new alloy wheel options, new colours and full LED headlamps have replaced the bi-xenon unit which were previously on offer. These also prevent the oncoming vehicle from getting dazzled. The tail lamp cluster has also been given a minor make over in terms of design, but it still continues to have the same housing.

On the inside, the new vehicle gets a larger 8″ free standing display. The dashboard continues to be similarly styled like previously on offer. There isn’t much change on the inside. There has been an addition of 360 degree camera which gives the vehicle a birds eye view, but that’s about it.

Under the hood, there are a wide range of engines on offer. The range topping version will be the GLA 45 AMG is powered by a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine making 381 Bhp and 471 Nm. For those not looking for that much power, there are still a large number of engine options to choose from. On the petrol front, there is the 180, 200, 220 and 250 engine options on offer. India will continue to get the 200 like it currently does. There are also a lot of diesel engines to choose from globally, however we expect the same 200 and 220 to be on offer for the time being. Come 2020, the company will have to bring in the all-new 2.0 liter diesel engine due to the emission norms that are going to be set. Till then we have to make do with the current set of engines.
