Ducati has just launched the all-new Monster 821 naked superbike in India. Prices start from Rs. 9.51 lakhs, ex-showroom India. Bookings are now open at all Ducati dealerships across the country. The Monster 821 is imported as a completely built unit (CBU) from Thailand, benefiting from the Indo-Thai free trade agreement, and this has allowed Ducati to price the iconic, streetfighter motorcycle quite competitively. Deliveries will start from early June 2018.
The motorcycle uses an 821cc, L-Twin air cooled, four stroke engine that produces 109 Bhp of peak power at 9,250 rpm and 86 Nm of peak torque at 7,750 rpm. A 6 speed manual gearbox is standard. The brand new motorcycle benefits from a new fuel tank, revised styling at the rear, an all-new exhaust, a new headlamp, a colour TFT display with gear and fuel level indicators.
The motorcycle uses 43 mm upside down front forks and a monoshock rear with pre-load adjustment. In terms of safety, the Monster 821 gets a Bosch 9.1MP ABS system and Ducati Traction Control, both of which get adjustability. There are riding modes as well – Sport, Touring and Urban – which allow both ABS and traction control to be controlled at different levels. 17 inch alloy wheels are standard, with Pirelli Diablo Rosso tyres on both wheels.
As for competition, the Ducati Monster 821 takes on the Triumph Street Triple 657, the Kawasaki Z900 and the recently launched Suzuki GSX-R 750. While all the competing motorcycles are liquid cooled, the Monster is the only air-cooled motorcycle, giving it a distinct flavour.
Sergio Canovas Garriga, the MD of Ducati India, said,
For the last 25 years, the Monster has consistently delighted biking enthusiasts across the world. This year is the 25th anniversary of the Monster and we’re very proud to introduce the new Monster 821 in India, in this special year. The new Monster 821 has been designed with the aim of creating a slim and a sporty motorcycle which highlights the original concept of “Sport Naked” and gives maximum riding pleasure.
