Honda has just unveiled, the all-new, 2nd-gen Amaze compact sedan at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. This car will take on the Maruti Dzire and Hyundai Xcent, among other compact sedans here, and will be launched in the coming months. The all-new Amaze is expected to be priced similar to the outgoing model, at about Rs. 5.5 lakhs as a starting price. It’s based on an all-new platform, and was designed by Honda Thailand.
The new Amaze looks grown-up, and seems to emulate the larger, more premium Civic sedan in terms of styling at the front, while managing to retain a distinct identity At the rear too, the car shows cues from the Civic. The profile of the new Amaze gets a coupe-like plunging roofline, again a cue that’s borrowed from the Civic. The car also seems taller.
Design-wise compact sedans in India finally seem to be coming of age. Then there’s a lot of chrome splattered on the new Amaze’s front end, and the rear is a lot more classier. All-in-all, the new Amaze has a distinct design that makes it look unlike any other compact sedan on sale in India currently.
In terms of engines and gearboxes on offer, the new car borrows heavily from the outgoing version. The petrol engine is the tried and tested 1.2 liter i-VTEC unit that makes 87 Bhp-110 Nm. 5 speed manual and CVT automatic gearboxes will continue to be on offer with this engine. This is the same set-up on the current car.
The diesel is a 1.5 liter i-DTEC all aluminium unit with 98.6 Bhp-200 Nm. More fuel efficient and punchy than the petrol motor, the diesel gets a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard. There’s no automatic transmission offered on the diesel. More details are expected in the coming months as we head closer to the car’s official launch here.
