All-new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback bookings open officially

Maruti dealers around India have started taking bookings for the all-new 2018 Swift officially. They’re now giving customers receipts for booking the new Swift, and Maruti’s inventory management system is also sending SMS confirmation to those who have booked the latest version of the hatchback. CarToq got in touch with a dealer at Delhi who confirmed that bookings for the all-new Swift are now open. The booking amount is pegged at Rs. 11,000, and is fully refundable in case of cancellation.

The all-new Swift will be launched at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo next month. It’ll be one of the biggest launches of the Expo, and prices will be announced at launch. The new car is expected to be marginally pricier than the outgoing, 2nd generation model. The 3rd generation Swift will be based on the new HEARTECT platform that it shares with other Maruti cars such as the Baleno and the new Dzire.

The new platform will make the 3rd-gen, 2018 Swift lighter than ever before. It will retain the petrol and turbocharged diesel engines from the outgoing models, and even the 5 speed manual gearboxes. However, major new additions to the 2018 Swift will be AMT options on both the petrol and diesel models. This is similar to what Maruti offers on the Swift’s compact sedan sibling – the Dzire.

Since the HEARTECT platform makes the new, 2018 Swift lighter, the car is expected to offer better fuel efficiency than ever before, and also benefit from better pick-up. The 1.2 liter K-Series engine will continue in the 82 Bhp-114 Nm state of tune, and so will be the case with the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine, which will have 74 Bhp-190 Nm on tap.

The new Swift is marginally shorter than the outgoing variant but better space management on the inside is expected to make it a little more roomier for passengers. The new car will also get a host of new features including standard airbags and ABS, and the SmartPlay infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The new Swift’s ex-showroom prices are likely to start from Rs. 4.99 lakhs, going up to Rs. 7.99 lakhs.
