Maruti Suzuki has just revealed that the all-new 2018 Swift will be offered in 12 variants, and six colours including a new colour – Lucent Orange. The bookings for the Swift have officially been opened today, with the refundable booking amount of Rs. 11,000. Bookings for the new car are open across all 2,300 Maruti dealerships around India. Even before Maruti announced the start of bookings, dealers around India had started accepting bookings for the new car. The launch and price announcement will happen in early February, at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo.
The new Swift’s petrol model will be available in LXi, VXi, VXi AGS, ZXi, ZXi AGS and ZXi+ trims, and the diesel engined model will be offered in LDi, VDi, VDi AGS, ZDi, ZDi AGS and ZDi+ trims. AGS here stands for auto-gear shift, the term Maruti uses to denote AMT equipped cars.
Both the Swift Petrol and Diesel models will be sold with the 5 AMT gearbox. It is for the first time in 3 generations of the car that automatic variants are being offered in India. Swift AMT variants are likely to be very popular among buyers.
The petrol and diesel engines of the 3rd generation 2018 Swift will be carried over from the 2nd generation, outgoing version. However, the new car is expected to be more fuel efficient and peppier as it is over 100 Kilograms lighter than the outgoing model.
This is because Maruti has built the new Swift on the HEARTECT platform, which uses high tensile steel that increases strength while reducing weight. The petrol engine is the 1.2 liter K-Series VVT unit with 82 Bhp and 114 Nm while the diesel is the DDiS 190 Fiat Multijet turbocharged engine with 74 Bhp-190 Nm.
The new car gets a black dashboard and interior highlights with satin inserts. The wheelbase of the new Swift has increased by 20 mm even though the overall length has reduced slightly. The seatbacks have also been redesigned to liberate more space for passengers. Maruti claims that headroom has also gone up by 24 mm, even though the total height has reduced slightly. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink are the various smartphone integration softwares available on the new Swift’s infotainment system.
