Maruti Suzuki has just revealed that the all-new, 2018 Swift hatchback will be launched in India at the Auto Expo on the 8th of February. The price announcement of the car will also happen during the launch. Bookings for the Swift are already open at all Maruti Arena (non-Nexa) dealerships across India. The new car is based on the HEARTECT platform and is lighter than the outgoing model by over 80 kilograms. For the first time ever, Maruti will launch the Swift with automatic gearbox options.
The car will be offered with 2 engine options – a 1.2 liter K-Series petrol with 84 Bhp-114 Nm and a 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine with 74 Bhp-190 Nm. Five speed manual gearboxes will be standard on both engines, which will also get AMT options. The Swift gets a long list of new features such as LED projector headlamps, keyless entry, daytime running LEDs, a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and automatic climate control. Twin airbags and ABS will be standard on all Swift variants. The new car gets improved leg room thanks to a 20 mm increase in wheelbase and boot capacity has also increased by 20 %.
Maruti is expected to launch a sportier version of the Swift by the end of this year. Called the Swift Sport, the high performance version will be aimed at driving enthusiasts. It will feature a 1.4 liter turbocharged petrol engine with 140 Bhp-230 Nm on tap, and a 6 speed manual gearbox.
The Swift Sport will also have a sportier suspension set up that aids high speed cornering. It is expected to command a significant premium over the regular Swift, and could be priced at Rs. 10 lakhs, or even more. Maruti will produce the new Swift at its Hansalpur factory in Gujarat, and the Sport version is also likely to be built there.
