After the success of the XUV700, Mahindra is now working on launching the new generation of Scorpio. The new SUV is expected to launch in June of 2022. The reason behind this is that the first generation of Scorpio was launched on June 20th 2002. So, Mahindra might celebrate 20 years of the Scorpio by launching it on the same date. The same strategy was recently followed by Bajaj for their new generation of Pulsars. There have been a lot of spy shots of the 2022 Scorpio. Here, we have a sketch drawn by Shoeb Kalania and the video has been uploaded on YouTube.
The sketch looks pretty accurate as it has been based on the spy shots. So, we can expect the production version of the Scorpio to look pretty close to how the sketch looks like. The artist has only sketched the front quarter of the SUV.

The 2022 Scorpio will retain its boxy design language but will now be larger in the dimensions. This would help in increasing the interior space for the occupants. Mahindra would also rework the ladder frame chassis that will help in improving the ride quality and handling of the 2022 Scorpio.
Up-front there would be redesigned headlamps with dual projector units. There are new C-shaped Daytime Running Lamps that surround the fog lamps. All the lighting elements will now be LEDs, at least on the top-end variant.
There will be new “twin peaks” logo of Mahindra that debuted on the XUV700. It would come with six vertical slats grille and an aggressive-looking air dam. There would be plastic cladding that would mimic the look of a bull bar at the front.
The bonnet will be high and flat, there would be a thick plastic cladding that would run throughout the side profile of the car. This enhances the SUV look of the Scorpio. The alloy wheels would measure 17-inches in size and will be wrapped by MRF Wanderer tyres that have a size of 245/65. The new tyres are wider than the current tyres. For reference, the current tyres measure 235/65.
There would also be side steps that would help in getting in and out more easily. The rear tailgate will be flat and will still be side hinged. It would be opened by a door handle just like we have seen on the current Scorpio. There would be a rear wiper with a washer, a high mounted stop lamp, roof rails and a shark fin antenna on offer. The rear LED tail lamps will also be new.
The interior would be redesigned as well. It would look more premium and up-market than the current Scorpio. It would come with a black and dark brown theme. There are reports that the 2022 Scorpio will also be offered with captain chairs for the second row.
Engine options will include a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. There would also be a 4×4 drivetrain on offer with the higher variants.
