The country’s best-selling subcompact SUV Tata Nexon’s newest iteration has been spotted testing on the roads for the first time ever. The test mule seen during testing was wearing a camouflage wrap on its entire body panels and only the essential air vents were visible on the car. Even the wheels of the forthcoming Nexon were covered in the same camouflage wrap. According to Cardekho, the model will most likely go on sale in 2024.
The spy shots of the 2024 Nexon reveal that the model will most likely retain its current silhouette and platform but will receive a major overhaul in terms of design. According to reports the all-new Nexon will feature the brand’s newest design language which was shown by the automaker at the 2023 Auto Expo with its upcoming coupe-styled SUV Curvv and Seltos and Creta rival Sierra.
At the front, the subcompact SUV could boast the split headlamp setup like the Curvv shown at the expo. Under this design, the Nexon will become in line with the Harrier and Safari twins as well where the LED DRL is placed above and the headlights are placed a little above where the foglamps would be present. As from the picture itself nothing is quite evident because of the camouflage.
Moving on the side not much seems to be changed and as mentioned the overall silhouette of the outgoing model will be retained and the wheelbase will also remain the same. The only thing at the moment which is sure about the changes on the side are the new alloy wheels. The test mule had them covered in the same camouflage as the body. Meanwhile on the rear the car could get connecting strip between the the LEDs taillamps of both ends as apparent by the raised boot lip below the rear windshield.
As for the interior side of things not much was visible from the spy shots but it is anticipated that the forthcoming model will boast an all-new layout for the dashboard. It could also get a bigger infotainment screen, connected car tech, bigger and advanced driver display along with some other creature comforts and features as well.
Meanwhile in terms of the drivetrain options the company could offer the upcoming Nexon internal combustion engined model with some new powerplants. It is believed that the current diesel mill will still be offered in the new SUV along with the current EV drivetrain option. What will be new will be the brands inclusion of the new 1.2 TGDi petrol powerplant.
It was recently reported that the company is planning to introduce the new 1.2L TGDi petrol powerplant in the Nexon to make the country’s most powerful subcompact SUV. According to the information, this new motor will be an 1198 cc three-cylinder turbocharged unit that will be able to produce a maximum of 125 PS of power at 5000 rpm. What will be more spectacular about this engine will be its torque output. This new powerplant will churn out a whopping 225 Nm of torque at 1700-3500 rpm.
As for the launch date of the forthcoming subcompact SUV it will most probaly be launched in 2024 following the launch of the Curvv coupe SUV. And pricing should command a little more premium over the current models price tag of Rs 7.80 lakh and Rs 14.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
